Chemical Name: ITRACONAZOLE (IT-ra-KON-a-zole)
Sporanox 100mg is an azole antifungal agent used to treat fungal infections.
WARNING: Sporanox 100mg should not be used to treat a fungal infection of the toenail or fingernail (onychomycosis) in patients with heart problems (eg, history of congestive heart failure). Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms of congestive heart failure such as swelling of the hands, ankles, feet, or abdomen; bloating; shortness of breath; fast or irregular heartbeat; severe or persistent nausea; or confusion. Use of Sporanox 100mg along with certain other medicines may increase your risk of serious and sometimes fatal heart problems, including irregular heartbeat. DO NOT TAKE SPORANOX 100mg IF you are also taking cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, dofetilide, or levacetylmethadol (levomethadyl). Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Sporanox 100mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE SPORANOX 100mg if you are also taking an aldosterone blocker (eg, eplerenone), alprazolam, astemizole, cisapride, conivaptan, dofetilide, an ergot alkaloid (eg, ergotamine), certain HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (eg, lovastatin, simvastatin), levacetylmethadol (levomethadyl), oral midazolam, nevirapine, nisoldipine, pimozide, a quinazoline (eg, alfuzosin), quinidine, rifabutin, rifampin, terfenadine, triazolam, or certain 5-HT receptor agonists (eg, eletriptan). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking calcium channel blockers (eg, verapamil), or if you take other prescription and nonprescription medicines (eg, used for infections, HIV, seizures, anxiety, sleep, heartburn, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart problems, high blood pressure, allergies, irregular heartbeat, pain, blood thinning, asthma, migraines, mood or mental problems, cancer, prostate problems, immune system suppression, erectile dysfunction, urinary problems, or contraception [birth control]), multivitamin products, and herbal or dietary supplements. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including HIV infection, a weakened immune system, kidney problems, or liver problems, abnormal liver function tests, lung or breathing problems (eg, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD]), low stomach acid (eg, hypochlorhydria), nerve problems, problems with swelling or retaining fluid, allergies, pregnancy, breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have an irregular heartbeat or other heart problems (eg, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, heart valve problems). Tell your doctor if you have had serious liver problems caused by Sporanox 100mg or other medicines, or if you are allergic to other azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole). USE OF SPORANOX 100mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED to treat fungal infections of the toenail or fingernail (onychomycosis) in patients who are pregnant, may become pregnant, or who have congestive heart failure, or a history of congestive heart failure). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Sporanox 100mg.
Use Sporanox 100mg exactly as directed by your doctor. TAKE SPORANOX 100mg after a full meal. If you have low stomach acid or you take medicine to reduce stomach acid, take Sporanox 100mg with a cola beverage. DO NOT TAKE ANTACIDS within 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking Sporanox 100mg. If you also take a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) (such as omeprazole), take it at least 2 hours after you take Sporanox 100mg. STORE SPORANOX 100mg at room temperature, between 59 and 77 degrees F (15 and 25 C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP SPORANOX 100mg out of the reach of children and away from pets. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking Sporanox 100mg for the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Do not miss any doses. Taking Sporanox 100mg at the same time each day will help you to remember. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF SPORANOX 100mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE SPORANOX 100mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. SPORANOX 100mg ONLY WORKS AGAINST FUNGI; it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). IT MAY TAKE SEVERAL WEEKS OR MONTHS for Sporanox 100mg to work. Do not stop using Sporanox 100mg without checking with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR if your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE take Sporanox 100mg for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function tests may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Sporanox 100mg. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Sporanox 100mg. Sporanox 100mg may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Sporanox 100mg. Using Sporanox 100mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. RARELY, SPORANOX 100mg HAS BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH SERIOUS, SOMETIMES FATAL LIVER DAMAGE. Contact your doctor right away if you notice dark urine, pale stools, a swollen or tender stomach, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. DO NOT SWITCH between the capsule and oral solution forms of Sporanox 100mg without checking with your doctor. Effectiveness and side effects of these forms of Sporanox 100mg may be different, even at the same dose. FOR WOMEN TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS, Sporanox 100mg may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pill. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control. FOR WOMEN TAKING SPORANOX 100mg TO TREAT A FUNGAL INFECTION OF THE TOENAIL OR FINGERNAIL (onychomycosis): If you may become pregnant, you must use an effective form of birth control while you take Sporanox 100mg and for 2 months after you stop taking it. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING SPORANOX 100mg IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IT IS NOT KNOWN IF SPORANOX 100mg CAN CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Sporanox 100mg during pregnancy. SPORANOX 100mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Sporanox 100mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby. IF YOU HAVE DIABETES, Sporanox 100mg may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely and ask your doctor before adjusting the dose of your diabetes medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Sporanox 100mg include headache, dizziness, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, gas, diarrhea, and mild stomach pain or upset. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience bloating; chest pain; confusion; depression; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; shortness of breath; sudden weight gain; swollen or tender stomach; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; unusual tiredness; loss of appetite; severe or persistent nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain; dark urine; pale stools; yellowing of the eyes or skin; tingling or numbness of the hands or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; or reddened, blistered or swollen skin. An allergic reaction to Sporanox 100mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
