I'm a licensed cosmetologist, and to not be lynched by a mom of angry stylists, I'm leaving this review anonymously. Here's the facts: Fact #1: Sun-In uses a low volume hydrogen peroxide. Fact #2: Most hair colors and all lighteners use hydrogen peroxide, and most blonde shades use a much higher volume than Sun-In, therefore Sun-In is NOT going to "fry" your hair any more than traditional color. Fact #3: The difference is that Sun-In lightens your hair without depositing a color into it as it lightens, so natural "warm" pigments show through. So depending on how much natural "warm" pigments are in your hair will determine the results you'll get. It may take several applications before you've reached your perfect shade. Fact #4: Using a blow dryer on high heat will yield much more even and reliable results. Fact#5: I have been using Sun-In on my lt. brown hair for years, and my hair is soft, shiny, and no one knows I'm not a natural blonde!

Lets be honest: this is not meant to be used as overall color. I have strawberry blonde hair and normally pay upwards of $250 for highlights. I have used similar products before. In my opinion, if you use it sparigly and it achieves a great result. I use it 2-3 times every 3-4 months and deep condition and treat my hair well in meantime, it looks like I got a bit of sun and gives my hair a bit of a brighter look, I use very very little. Ok, so it is perfect salon hair but it is very very close and saves me over 1K per year.

Comments about Sun-In Hair Lightener, Tropical Breeze, 4.7 fl oz:

I am asian with black hair and it really worked on my hair.
it turned to really pretty brown, and you can lighten the brown by applying/blowdrying several times. I used it three times (three different days) and achieved my ideal color. Very convenient to use as well. (spray and blow-dry. done!)
So, it does work as it says on the bottle.

However, my complaint is that it damages your hair like no other.
i had really healthy undamaged hair but now, i have crazy split ends, can't comb my hair through without hair snapping and making a mess.
Now i reluctantly plan on getting a hair cut.
so… does the pretty color worth the damage?
    absolutely not for me.

Comments about Sun-In Hair Lightener, Tropical Breeze, 4.7 fl oz:

My hair is naturally ash blonde, but I'm a lifeguard & spend a lot of time in the sun, so my hair lightens considerably in the summer. Sun-In was actually recommended to me years ago by my stylist as an inexpensive way to blend in my darker roots in the fall & winter. He suggested using a leave-in conditioner during the application process to protect from damage. (I use a hair-dryer, but the conditioner can also be used out in the sun.)
I've recommended it to friends wanting to go lighter or add a few highlights. My two suggestions are use conditioner and be patient. By patient I mean lighten your hair gradually over a few days as opposed to dumping half the bottle on your head all at once. You'll be better able to control the results & your hair will end up in better shape.

Comments about Sun-In Hair Lightener, Tropical Breeze, 4.7 fl oz:

I love this product. I tried all the ways to get my hair lighter naturally. My hair is a jet black color and this worked great on me! I got this darn brown golden color, that looks very natural. I loved it, and I don't think that it smells as bad as people say it does. It was only 4 dollars at my local store because it was on sale, but it's usual about 5 dollars. It's MUCH cheaper than risking a hairdye because my hair is so dark. The one thing that I didn't like was that I got to keep reapplying and repeating the who process because the color didn't come out right away. Also, it leaves your hair very rough and brittle.

Nothing compares to Sun-in for an easy, natural, sun-kissed look! I have been using this product FOREVER and LOVE IT.

Not recommended for dark hair--says so on the bottle, but if you have light brown or blonde hair...TRY IT!

You can frame your face for a highlighted look, or go all over! I am 41 and my blonde hair is turning darker. Nothing beats this for brightening up my hair and (most likely) covering a gray hair or two.

Bring it with you to the beach or pool...works best! BUT, your hair-dryer will do the trick too. Just keep wetting and drying until you achieve the color you like. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Comments about Sun-In Hair Lightener, Tropical Breeze, 4.7 fl oz:

I would suggest this product to anyone except people who have pure black hair, such as Asians or African Americans. My hair has black strands, but also has brown and light brown. I used this for the first time when I was a teenager and it gave me beautiful highlights. It affected each type of hair I have differently and turned some hairs blond, some brown, and some red. Overall, it just looked kind of chestnut brown.

But then I recommended it to my Korean friend, and it was a disaster. It wouldn't work as quickly as it did for me, so we tried putting in more, and she woke up in the morning with orange hair. Apparently she didn't even ask her parents, and they banned her from hanging out with me. Oops.

So, please only use it if you don't have pure black hair. And if you have very dark hair like me, just use the tiniest bit until you can gauge how much you really need. It does take a day or two to sink in. Don't put too much the first time because you don't immediately see the results.

I used this product as a teenager in the seventies and my hair came out a little orange back then. I just bought it for my 16 year old daughter and the formulation hasn't seemed to improve much--she ended up looking a little brassy too.....not bad tho, she likes it. There is a gel product called "Beach Blonde" which works better.

I love sun-in sooooo much! It's a great product!!! My hair is naturally a light/medium brown color, and I've been getting highlights from expensive salons for years. My mom was tired of paying for it so she bought me some sun-in and said that she used to use it when she was a teenager and it workes great. I've sprayed it in my hair before blow-drying about 4-5 days in and i loooove the results!!! My hair turned this really pretty medium blonde color and it has golden-ish and even some red-ish tints to it...it's awesome! All my friends keep commenting on it and everyone loves it!!!

I have naturally very dark brown (almost black in the winter) hair and have been lightening my hair with bleach for a while now. I decided to try this product to see if I could do something about my overgrown roots, and hopefully get away with not touching up for a longer period of time. I read some reviews, and was aware that this product is known to turn dark hair orange, but I thought I'd give it a try anyway, and was amazed with the results! (I can't say I like the smell, though)Just one application (with a bit of heat from a hair dryer) takes my hair to a caramel blondish color with no apparent damage at all! This was a surprise because I was expecting my hair to go red or orange, or even not lighten at all, since my natural hair is so dark, but the color turns out a very natural looking, creamy caramel with subtle golden highlights.Admittedly, I do have to use a lot (and frequently) since I use it on my whole head, but at [$] dollars a bottle, the results can't be beaten! I wish I knew about this earlier, it would have saved me so much money and saved my hair a lot of damage!I'm ditching the other stuff and will definitely be buying this again!
