One of the things I typically enjoy with a humidifier is the "white noise" aspect however, the overall sound emitted by this particular unit is more like a "motor" than a "whoosh" so I find I have to mentally tune out the motor and focus on the whoosh. Also, this unit does not put out a very high degree of humidity. My humidistat only rises less than 5 degrees with this one, versus more than ten with the one I had used previously. I'm running this unit it in a 13 x 11 foot bedroom. This unit does not have any filter that requires cleaning or replacing. Clean by wiping out the tank but note that it is not possible to clean the rest of the mechanism. As with many humidifiers, this one cannot be filled in a regular bathroom sink, unless the spigot is longer than average or the sink bowl is deep and without rounded sides.
