I use them the way they all say not to, I put them behind my back and either sit against it or lie on it. For me, it's not realistic to only use them on top of my back - how would you ever use it in a chair? Anyway, as a result, I guess I go through heating pads quicker than most, and this one is the only one that has lasted without ANY SIGN of wear & tear. The superior design is clearly the reason. Almost all others that I've seen have a separate pillowcase held on by a measly snap or a flimsy cord cover that tears with the slightest tension. This pad is all one piece with the heating element running through a soft, flexible & removable fabric pad (just detach it from the power cord, and throw the whole thing in the washing machine!), and the cord and attachment are far sturdier than any I've seen. The next night, it finally heated up. The problem arose when I restarted the pad after it automatically shut down. The cord connecting the pad to the power became unbelievably hot, and I heard a pop, followed by a small fire a few moments later. Fortunately, I was able to extinguish the small blaze and unplug the pad before anything was seriously damaged, only a minor char mark on my blanket. 2 days, and it almost burned my room down!! Be very careful when you use this product, or you might not be as lucky as I was... This one weighs almost nothing and wouldn't stay in place, but the worst part was that it just didn't get hot, only slightly warm, even on high. Service and delivery comments: No it did not arrive on time, I had a changed address for the 2nd shipment but customer service or whoever shipped it did not note that so it went back then they had to reship it. If you have any question about how to use it with "wet heat" (as described in the packaging), don't bother reading the instructions. There is absolutely no info for you. I treat my products well, store them as recommended and use them as they say to. Unfortunately this just stopped working and started making a "popping" noise when I tried to use it. Although it never caught fire or anything similar, it was concerning. I may purchase another one in hopes that I received a faulty unit but it was not a bad product. Comments about Sunbeam King Size Heating Pad, Model 807-810, 1 ea: This heating pad is nicer than most in that the shut off is not for 2 hours automatically, so you are not constantly having to start it up again. This works well at night when I use it on my hips. The "king-Size" is a misnomer. I have another actal king Size heating pad that is much longer than this. Medium size would be more accurate. It does get nice and hoton the 2nd setting, where my other one only gets warm on the highest setting, so that is a plus. I have another heating pad with much smaller coils that works quite well. The unit is also smaller than I expected and is more square than rectangular in shape.
