I take exception to BUBBA, 03/05/10 and LaLaLa,11/15/09, reviews. I have had three heart surgeries, the last, a four major artery bypass, in 1996, that is textbook perfect, at last catherization. I was on LIPITOR, for 13 yeare, from 380+ chlorestol and tryglyderides, down to umder 150, but deep thigh muscle pain, I went to TRILIPIX. As I am not a candidate for transplant, a dozen of my smaller heart arteries were cloged, so I have been on aspirin+ two 500mg NIASPIN, at bedtime, as the flushing if acute, if awake. My Cardiologist said to wean off NIASPAN and take Flushless Niacin, along wotj Niaspan, until I am out. This is good enough for me, and I trust your cross minitoring my numerous medicines (15+). Also, I will be 78 om August. Thanks.

After consulting our physician, both my husband and I took 2 a day for a year. Our total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol went up, despite diet and exercise improvements too. My triglycerides went up too. Both of our HDL stayed the same.
Unfortunately, I didn't do enough research first. Only the nicotinic acid form of niacin will help with cholesterol and triglycerides, and this product isn't nicotinic acid.

Does NOT Help LDL or triglycerides

This product contains Inositol hexanicotinate, NOT Nicotinic Acid. In a double-blind survey, Inositol hexanicotinate was no more effective in reducing LDL and triglycerides than a placebo.

To read about this, go to Wikipedia and look up "Niacin".

Other reviewers have stated that this product helped reduce high serum levels. More power to them but, likely, the true reduction stemmed from other factors, such as exercise or dietary change.

Sundown does (or did?) make Niacin tablets containing Nicotinic Acid, but one of the ingredients in those pills is Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, a known cause of cardiovascular disease.

don't self-prescribe because niacin has potential side effects to monitor, liver and blood sugar among them. It has been effective in reducing LDL cholesterol for some in my family.
