The bristles are amazingly short and yet to my surprise this brush does what it said: it brushes through my thick long hair quite well. The handle is sturdy and I think it well last well. My big complaint is that the bristles really scratch the scalp. If you have a sensitive scalp you well not like this brush. I hope they can make the tips more gentle because I would really like it then.

This brush is made with mostly synthetic bristles. There are very few boar bristles in this brush, which explains why it was so inexpensive. If you are looking for a quality boar bristle brush, look elsewhere.

I use it regularly for my scalp as I have thick hair and the new synthetic brushes do not seem to get to the scalp and remove dry flakes.

I use a more natural dandruff/tar based shampoo but feel I need to really brush my scalp with real bristles to stimulate and clear the scalp, not just brush the hair.

First, I saw the price and that made the purchase . I saw other brushes copied at the dollar store saying they were swiss made with boar bristlesfor $2 but the bristles looked plastic-like, the handle was was a wood copy . I braced myself before this brush from drugstore.com came thinking the bristles and workmanship would be other than looking all natural ,but I was impressed for the money, the bristles are real. and the handle is reall wood ! when I use it it instantly smooths my wavy hair in a healthy way which I had trouble with before .

Pros: Makes hair smooth and shiny with just a few strokes. Great price.

Cons: Bristles are too short to do anything but the top layers of thick hair and doesn't reach scalp. Handle a bit wide and oddly shaped to feel comfortable in my hand.

This is the first boar-bristle brush I've purchased. I was expecting much softer bristles, but instead was surprised when this one arrived with short, very course bristles. Maybe a boar-bristle brush that is more expensive would be softer. After all, this one was only [$]Additionally, the short bristles make it difficult to style thick hair.
