How to Compare Fragrance Strengths
No perfume for women is made entirely of fragrance. When manufacturing women's fragrances, perfumers mix fragrance molecules with carrier ingredients to ensure that they are easy to apply and to help the scents last. The concentration or amount of fragrance compared to the overall amount of liquid in a perfume determines how strong it is. Concentration also affects price. Eau de parfum fragrances are highly concentrated, so they can last for a long period of time and have very noticeable scents. They are also usually the most expensive fragrance options. Eau de toilette products are more diluted. Their scents are still noticeable, but they do not last as long and are not as bold. Body sprays have a low concentration of fragrance molecules, making them very light and subtle.
What Are Notes?
When you begin to read the descriptions of women's fragrance products, you'll encounter the word "note." A note is one of the scents that serves as a component for a perfume. There are three kinds of notes: top notes, mid notes and base notes. Immediately after application, the top notes are the strongest scents and they define the overall fragrance of the perfume. Within a short period of time, the top notes become less evident, and you begin to smell the mid notes. Gradually, the mid notes fade, and you're left with the base notes. These scents can linger on the skin for hours to an entire day, depending on how strong a fragrance
