What Is a Canister Vacuum?
A canister vacuum is a type of cleaning appliances that creates a suction to pull dirt and debris off of surfaces. While canister vacuums may look very differently from one another, all of them will consist of a main body, which may be shaped like a sideways tube or a vertical barrel, and a hose. The free end of the hose is usually mounted with a head to help draw dirt inside when the vacuum is turned on, and some models come with different head attachments for various cleaning tasks. Canister vacuums are very versatile cleaning solutions and are useful for removing debris from floors, drapes, upholstery and many other areas in a home.
What Is an Upright Vacuum?
An upright vacuum cleaner works similarly to a canister vacuum in that it suctions fine particulates to help you clean; however, these types of vacuums are very different in their design. An upright vacuum has a rectangular body with an elongated handle. At the bottom of the body is a head that contains a brusher bar. When you turn on the vacuum, you use the handle to push it back and forth along the floor. The brushes on the bar in the head of the vacuum disturb the dust and debris, so that the vacuum can suction it away. Generally, upright vacuums are best used for cleaning floors. Some do have hose attachments that make them capable of cleaning draperies, upholstery and other surfaces.
Wet and Dry Vacuum and Steamer Options
For some cleaning tasks, a standard vacuum may not be ideal. Ordinary vacuum cleaners can only handle dry dirt, so they cannot be used to clean up liquid spills or to remove debris from damp, moist areas. Wet and dry vacuums offer a solution and can be used to clean up both wet and dry messes due to their unique filter design. Steam cleaners use heat and moisture to clean surfaces and are capable of killing many germs. These types of cleaning tools may be used on carpeting, upholstery, draperies, hard flooring and other surfaces, depending on their design.
Robotic Vacuums and Steamers for Automated Cleaning
Robotic vacuums and steamers are the latest innovations in floor care. These automated cleaning appliances work on their own and do not require you to be present while they operate. Using sensors, they move through areas in your home and clean the floors as they travel, so that you can focus on other tasks or upon relaxing and enjoying time with your family.
