I found out about the divacup while I was desperately searching for something better than pads. Tampons really dry me out so I can't use them comfortably, and pads are just gross and messy and ever time I would go to the bathroom I would be reminded it's that time of the month. I read about the divacup, couldn't help thinking that it's weird and gross, and was really apprehensive about it. So I did some research, read dozens of forums and product reviews, and finally gave in and thought I'd give it a try.

I have to say, the divacup is the best thing that ever happened to feminine hygiene products. It's comfortable, clean, easy to use, great for any kind of physical activity such as riding a bike, running, swimming, snowboarding--you'll completely forget it's there, and it has no odor AT ALL. I put it in the morning of the day when I expect to get my period, so I never have to worry about messy surprises anymore. I empty it and wash it with soap and hot water twice a day, in the morning before I leave home and in the evening before I go to bed. Usually, I shower in the morning so I just wash it in the shower and put it back in, it takes a total of 2 minutes or less. It's great for travel! No more changing tampons in airport restrooms or worrying about leaks, I put it in before I leave and I am good to go for the next 12 hours or so.

That said, there are certain drawbacks to the divacup. It has to be washed twice a day so, when I go camping, I usually only wear it if I know there will be showers available. You could, of course, just wash it in the sink in a public restroom, but I expect you'll get lots of dirty looks. I personally don't feel comfortable emptying it out or putting it in while in a public restroom, but when I don't have a choice, I wipe it down with a wet paper towel in the stall, then reinsert. That is hardly ever an issue, though--I've only had to do it a couple of times while flying overseas. It should be washed with potable water, so that's something else to consider if you travel a lot to places with poor water quality, though the divacup can be boiled to be sanitized when potable water is not available.

I can only think of one real disadvantage, and that's the steep learning curve. It took me some time before I got the hang of how exactly to insert it easily and what it should feel like when it's been inserted correctly. I got some leakage my first period on the divacup because I hadn't inserted it correctly, and that wasn't a pleasant experience. However, once you're used it, inserting and removing it is really easy. I trimmed off the stem on mine and now there's less than 1/4" left, which improved comfort tremendously (i.e. can't feel it at all, which is the way it should be). One really nice thing about the cup is that is doesn't dry you out at all, and you don't have to wait to get your period before you put it in. That means you get to practice!

Overall, the divacup has completely changed my attitude about my period--I don't hate it, dread it, or change my plans because of it anymore. Divacup's awesome :).

I bought my Diva Cup about two years ago and am reluctant to throw it away. It takes a while to learn how to insert and clean it properly but that is not the downside of this product. I have a very heavy period and this cup only lasts about an hour before it starts to leak on my heaviest days. And it's almost impossible to remove the cup without getting blood all over my hands. It also makes a sucking noise when it's being removed. I'm not a queasy person but it is a very embarrassing situation in a public bathroom when you leave the stall and have blood all over your hands. Even at home this can be annoying. I've tried several techniques to prevent this but none have worked. This paired with the poor protection of it makes it super inconvenient. I give the Diva Cup two stars: one because it is good for the environment, another because it does protect well on light days or times when you have nothing better to do than constantly empty your cup all day.Overall I'm disatisfied with the product but I wouldn't dissuade a friend from trying it. I just have a heavy flow that not many feminine products accomodate. I may try the keeper or the moon cup but in the mean time I'm sticking with ob.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

Great prodcut for all day long. No need to change or mess with it for the entire day. You almost forget you have it in! It takes some practice for placement but it only took me a few tries. My only problem is I don't use it at night just because after using it for 5 days and nights makes my cervix alittle tender. Other than a sensitive cervix, perfect!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I have nothing but good things to say about this product! Ive only used pads and ever since learning about the chemicals they use to make them and overall just having a messy experience I looked for a better and natural alternative. It deff takes a few attempts to use the cup properly, and cutting the stem off does help with the comfort! I didn't cut it off right away because I thought it would get lost inside me, but just push a few times in a comfortable position and it'll come out on its own, and make sure you break the seal by just giving it a little squeeze before pulling it out. Reinserting it is easy as i use the punch down method. Im never going back to anything else, I think all women should give this a try, your saving money, time, and its really comfortable because you can't even feel it. 10/10

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

It's always bothered me to think our landfills in the US are filled with tampon applicators...such a waste. When I heard about the DivaCup it sounded like a good solution. A friend of mine had used it in the past and stopped as she felt it was too messy but I figured I'd give it a try.
It definitely takes some getting used to but I think I'm done with tampons now. The hardest part is removal. It's a little time consuming as it takes a minute to remove, wash out, and re-insert but considering it only needs to be done twice a day it's not all that bad. I'm 31 and ordered the smaller size b/c I've never had a child and it fits fine and I've had no trouble with leaking. When it's in right, you can't feel a thing and you don't have to deal w/ a pesky string when wiping.
I can't imagine using the cup if I was in my teens. You really have to be comfortable with your body.
As a frequent traveler, the DivaCup will also come in handy. A weeks worth of tampons take up a lot of space in a suitcase!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I'm mid-twenties, married, no kids, and slim. This fits just perfect. I spent so much money each month on tampons and because my flow was so heavy that I would have to change the SUPER tampons every 2 hours. What I couldn't understand is that the larger the tampon size the faster it seemed to fill up. I started thinking that my heavy flow might have something to do with the chemicals in the tampons because no matter what size tampon I wore I had to change it in 2 hours. I only have to change my Diva Cup once every 12 and most of the time it hardly fills up half way. My periods have also gone from 7 days (for the last 14 years) to 4 days. I do notice that if I decide not to use my Diva Cup when my period gets lighter that it tends to drag on but if I use it until Im completely done with my period it is over in 4 days.

I've had this product since August 2013 and I HIGHLY recommend it. Yes, it takes getting use to, Yes, its going to look like Freddy Krueger was in your bathroom the first few times you change it, but you learn what to do (I also recommend watching videos on YouTube).

When I bought this it was $25 and it came with a free Diva Wash. I recommend the wash because it is nice to get it clean and to also not mess up your PH levels with the wrong soap.

Also, I have never swam in it so I can't review that aspect of it.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

This has been a life saver. I've used the DivaCup for three periods now and it has resolved some of my pet peeves about that time of the month. I like to sleep on my stomach and the DivaCup allows me to do so without the necessity of heavy pads or black sweat pants. I don't worry about having tampons or pads when I go out and I don't have to feel embarrassed by my pads in the trash (my boyfriend's cats would sniff the trash after I had thrown something away, mortifying). The DivaCup can be difficult to use at first and you have to be comfortable touching yourself down below but after a day or two you get used to it. I usually forget it's there because it conforms so well and I don't have to change it often. There's also the perk that it reduces waste and saves panties. I will, most likely, use this product until I no longer have periods or until periods are eradicated completely, whichever comes first.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

This product is awesome. I've been using it for years, and have convinced my mother into using it
It's sad that the USA isn't selling it in every drugstore. None of my friends have any clue what the product is, initially.
Overall, it's much cheaper than tampons or pads. It's also better on the environment.
I also love that there is none of the "smell" of using tampons or pads.
The cons are; it takes time to get used to. You will figure out that is needs to be worn lower than a tampon and will "suction" onto your cervix when properly inserted. If it leaks severely, it's not inserted properly.
You may also need to wear a slim pad or liner on "heavier" days, to protect from overflow.
For beginners, I recommend that you wear your regular sanitary pads until you are used to how the cup functions. If worn properly, it should be very comfortable, and should not leak if emptied every couple of hours. I've found that running it under warm water before inserting makes it more comfortable.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I have very light periods, so using even the smallest tampons would dry me out and I could only use them for daytime. The Diva cup has been a great find and I'm very glad I switched. For the pluses: you remove, empty and clean it twice a day, don't have to think about it at all in between. I've even left it in 24 hours and its been fine. This smaller size works very well for me even though I'm over the age recommendation because my period are very light (I'm never even close to filling it up) and I've never had children. I don't even need panty liners for this its so effective and reliable and I do a lot of physical activity, running, yoga, etc. It is tricky to use at first--you need to be very comfortable with yourself! I find though that for those who have a hard time getting it out its easiest at the end of the day and you may just need to give yourself a few minutes in the beginning to sit on the toilet and "bare down" to get the cup to a place where its easier to remove. Some people note they don't like the stem--you can feel it a bit over the course of the day, but honestly I don't know how I'd remove it without! While I can feel the cup sometimes when moving about, its not uncomfortable in anyway and you can always just try to push it up a little farther. I'm now tampon and pads free for months...its fantastic!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I never imagined I would own a menstrual cup - a few years ago, the idea repulsed me completely. However, things changed for me when I started developing recurring vaginal infections that weren't responding to treatment. I realized the cause was the disposable products I used, and - after trying EVERY disposable on the market - I was desperate. I switched to cloth pads, which I loved when I was on the pill and had a much lighter flow. This got me used to "interacting" with my period a bit more, and it was the first step in getting over the squeamishness associated with it. When I went off the pill and my heavy flow returned, however, cloth pads weren't enough. I supplemented with tampons and, sure enough, the old problems returned. It was then that I decided I needed to get over any ickiness I felt and try the cup. I will never, EVER go back! It's much lower-maintenance than the cloth pads, infinitely more comfortable, and just generally feels "cleaner." Yes, there is a learning curve to inserting and removing, but that's true for any new product you use "down there." I had it mastered after two cycles. I love that I only have to clean it twice a day (even on my heaviest days, which are pretty darn heavy), and I truly am able to forget I have my period for long stretches of time! No more carrying around disposables, excusing myself from meetings to change a tampon, or - most importanty for me - dealing with the irritation that accompanied those darn disposables. Seriously, if the only thing keeping you from trying this is the "yuck" factor, I urge you to try it anyway. It's your body, after all - are you willing to let yourself be so grossed out by your own body's natural functions that you'll allow yourself to be uncomfortable and inconvenienced for the rest of your pre-menopausal life? I wasn't, and I'm so, so happy I gave DivaCup a chance.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I bought this product because too often my pads and tampons leak and are uncomfortable and smelly. The DivaCup is wonderful. I have a pretty heavy flow and so far the cup has only leaked a little bit one time because I put it in wrong. I can't feel it when I use it, no pain or discomfort whatsoever. The best part is that I can wear it to bed without worrying about TSS. I gave it 4 stars, however, because it is pretty hard to insert and remove. It says that it can be used by young girls, but I am 20 and it is really hard for me to get it up there because it is too big, so I immagine if I had it when I was 15, it would have been impossible. Whenever I go to take it out, it is usually pretty far up and hard to get a grip on. Other than that, this is a wonderful thing for a woman to have and I recommend it for everyone! It may seem gross, but trust me, it is nowhere near as gross as pads and tampons.

The only "issue" I've ever really had is that it leaks a little bit for me. But that's something that can easily be dealt with when considering all of the other pros I get from this product. :)
