I found out about the divacup while I was desperately searching for something better than pads. Tampons really dry me out so I can't use them comfortably, and pads are just gross and messy and ever time I would go to the bathroom I would be reminded it's that time of the month. I read about the divacup, couldn't help thinking that it's weird and gross, and was really apprehensive about it. So I did some research, read dozens of forums and product reviews, and finally gave in and thought I'd give it a try.

I have to say, the divacup is the best thing that ever happened to feminine hygiene products. It's comfortable, clean, easy to use, great for any kind of physical activity such as riding a bike, running, swimming, snowboarding--you'll completely forget it's there, and it has no odor AT ALL. I put it in the morning of the day when I expect to get my period, so I never have to worry about messy surprises anymore. I empty it and wash it with soap and hot water twice a day, in the morning before I leave home and in the evening before I go to bed. Usually, I shower in the morning so I just wash it in the shower and put it back in, it takes a total of 2 minutes or less. It's great for travel! No more changing tampons in airport restrooms or worrying about leaks, I put it in before I leave and I am good to go for the next 12 hours or so.

That said, there are certain drawbacks to the divacup. It has to be washed twice a day so, when I go camping, I usually only wear it if I know there will be showers available. You could, of course, just wash it in the sink in a public restroom, but I expect you'll get lots of dirty looks. I personally don't feel comfortable emptying it out or putting it in while in a public restroom, but when I don't have a choice, I wipe it down with a wet paper towel in the stall, then reinsert. That is hardly ever an issue, though--I've only had to do it a couple of times while flying overseas. It should be washed with potable water, so that's something else to consider if you travel a lot to places with poor water quality, though the divacup can be boiled to be sanitized when potable water is not available.

I can only think of one real disadvantage, and that's the steep learning curve. It took me some time before I got the hang of how exactly to insert it easily and what it should feel like when it's been inserted correctly. I got some leakage my first period on the divacup because I hadn't inserted it correctly, and that wasn't a pleasant experience. However, once you're used it, inserting and removing it is really easy. I trimmed off the stem on mine and now there's less than 1/4" left, which improved comfort tremendously (i.e. can't feel it at all, which is the way it should be). One really nice thing about the cup is that is doesn't dry you out at all, and you don't have to wait to get your period before you put it in. That means you get to practice!

Overall, the divacup has completely changed my attitude about my period--I don't hate it, dread it, or change my plans because of it anymore. Divacup's awesome :).

I bought my Diva Cup about two years ago and am reluctant to throw it away. It takes a while to learn how to insert and clean it properly but that is not the downside of this product. I have a very heavy period and this cup only lasts about an hour before it starts to leak on my heaviest days. And it's almost impossible to remove the cup without getting blood all over my hands. It also makes a sucking noise when it's being removed. I'm not a queasy person but it is a very embarrassing situation in a public bathroom when you leave the stall and have blood all over your hands. Even at home this can be annoying. I've tried several techniques to prevent this but none have worked. This paired with the poor protection of it makes it super inconvenient. I give the Diva Cup two stars: one because it is good for the environment, another because it does protect well on light days or times when you have nothing better to do than constantly empty your cup all day.Overall I'm disatisfied with the product but I wouldn't dissuade a friend from trying it. I just have a heavy flow that not many feminine products accomodate. I may try the keeper or the moon cup but in the mean time I'm sticking with ob.

Love my diva cup! I've used soft cups in the past and nothing beats the ease of use, comfort, and protection of the diva cup. Does usually require a panty liner for me, but works so many times better than a tampon.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I'm not going to lie, the first few times you get this thing out it's kind of like the pigs blood scene in Carrie. If you're the slightest bit queasy or don't like the idea of touching your own menstrual blood, stay away. Just leave now. You have to be a bit of an earth mama to really love this, but oh my god is it worth it. Yes there's a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's really unthinkable to ever go back to use anything else. Tampons can be uncomfortable and high maintenance - with a divacup you can sleep like a sloth and not have to worry about waking up at the crack of dawn to prevent TSS. On heavy flow days it can be a bit messy, but that's what showers and private toilets are for. The thing is good to go for up to 12 hours, so sometimes I just wait to get home before I deal with it again. Washing your hands before and afterwards is a must, though boiling isn't as necessary in my opinion. I thought the divawash was kind of a crock for my money, but it's totally worth it. The divawash helps with discoloration (which is perfectly normal), and it's vag-friendly - it's not perfumed or dyed and you really only need a little bit to get a good lather. Rinsing your divacup with water is fine in a pinch, but I prefer using the wash. Overall I cannot recommend the divacup enough. I've told all my close friends about it, and if you're lazy, cheap, environmentally conscious, forgetful, or all of the above, the divacup is your new best friend.

The only downside to the divacup is that unlike the softcup you can't have sex while wearing it. But the divacup is reusable and sturdy, so I prefer using the divacup regularly. The company is vague about lifespan - they recommend replacing it every year or so but add that it's really up to the consumer. I had my last cup for 4 years before I decided to toss it, I see no reason why you can't keep using it for 5 years as long as you're taking good care of it.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I purchased this product a couple months back and I love it now. It offers great protection as long as you insert it right. A lot of people have been putting that the DivaCup is not discreet but what I usually do is try to find a one-person bathroom to take it out.

For the first two days of my period, I always have a really heavy flow so I have to change it even before the 12 hour mark. I usually pair it with a pad for extra protection and I will soon be investing in the LunaPad (which is reusabale and washable pads) to pair it with the Divacup as well as make sure that if I leak it won't mess up my clothes.

For what it's worth, I think the price is decent in comparison to the amount of tampons I would use that would definitely go over 30 bucks. Also, the Divacup is perfect for me because I often would forget to change my tampon especially once the day would start going.

Not going to lie though, it is difficult to insert the first couple of times. What I found that worked for me is that I squat really low to have more of an opening. It's not as messy as it sounds especially if you just do it in the shower. And when you pull it out all you have to do is pinch the bottom of the cup. I never really had a problem with it being messy except when I was inserting it in wrong! Everyone's method is probably different. But I remember when I first started using tampons I definitely struggled inserting those!

Anyway, I highly recommend this product. It takes a while to get used to (but hey, it's new) and is a bit pricey but a good investment. Also, you will feel cleaner than when you use a pad and or a tampon since it definitely holds more!

I never submit reviews, but the Diva Cup is life changing! I'm in my late twenties and have moderate-heavy bleeding. Cup goes in in the morning and I take it out and clean it at night. I honestly forget about it during the day. Getting it in and out as well as cleaning takes a little getting used to. Sometimes it does leak, but it is VERY minimal. A tip that may be TMI- I remove while showering and clean it thoroughly then. I will never use a tampon again. Definitely way less trash and hassle!

I decided to try this since I'm deployed and hate having to walk out to the port o' potty all the time to change a tampon. It held for 12 hours, no leaks, easy to remove. The first insert was disgusting, and I wasn't sure I had it in right, but every time after that easy, quick and painless. It's so comfortable, I kept forgetting it was even in. You just continue about like a normal day, and just change it & clean it every 8-12 hours. I promise it's worth it.

I really REALLY wanted to like this product. I keep trying it, but have the same problems. It has gotten easier to insert, but removing it is a MESS and often painful. It is definitely not practical for use in public restrooms and it requires lot of trial and error to figure it out.

Like I said, I really had high hopes......and I continue to try it, but there are no improvements.

The only positive I can give is the fact that it would have saved a great deal of money on pads and tampons and it is environmentally friendly.....unfortunately it just did not work for me.

I love my Diva Cup and I am buying another one now after using mine for more than a year (you are supposed to replace them every year or so). It takes a little time to figure out how best to use it and get used to it, but it is so much better than tampons and pads! I ended up having to use my inside out because the stem irritated me. I have a medium period and I usually only empty and clean my Diva Cup once in the morning and once at night, which is a lot less than I had to deal with tampons. I also used to always wear at least a panty liner just in case, in addition to a tampon, and now I don't wear anything else. Once you figure out how to insert/position the Diva Cup correctly it never leaks. So, it may take some time to get used to, and it is a little more hands on/messy, but it is totally worth it!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I'm a 23 year old virgin and I've been wanting to try this out since I was 18!! In the last 2 years, I've had some of the most painful periods ever with extremely heavy flow. As a full-time dual degrees student and two sport athlete, I could literally barely keep up with my period. Even with the highest absorbency tampons, I'd be in the bathroom every single hour on the hour or I would leak through all of my clothes. It was completely miserable. I was literally in and out of the bathroom 15-18 times a day and was not sleeping through the night. I went through 2 boxes of tampons for each period, and if I had plans or was traveling, I had to figure out how to discretely cart my whole supply with me because I never knew how many tampons I would need.

So after doing some research, FINALLY, I decided to buy the DivaCup (Model 1). I was so excited when it came in the mail and I started to practice immediately. I won't lie: the first two times inserting, it WAS slightly painful because I didn't insert it all the way before the cup opened (I'll call it a suction problem). I practiced a couple days for a week to the point where I was comfortable. Then I waited for my period.

My first period using DivaCup went like this: The very first day, I had no problem inserting the cup. I decided to insert/remove it more frequently the first couple days so I could see how well it held my flow. The first time removing it, I thought it would be "right there" ready to take out, and it wasn't at first. So I won't lie, i FREAKED out. **But that's the thing, when you're scared, you're muscles tense up, and it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get out, so just RELAX!!!*** Once I relaxed, I got it out very easily. Washed it and re-inserted it.

I did have some leakage problems, but I didn't have any cramps all day. No dryness, no bloating, no nothing. It was AMAZING.

At 11pm that night I decided to take a break and do some more research about it. So I took DivaCup out and used a tampon instead. ***The tampon wasn't even in for 30 minutes, and I immediately began to feel my cramps start, along with that dry feeling, and everything I hate about my period. That's when I decided that I am never going back to tampons ever again.

I DON"T KNOW IF THIS WILL WORK FOR EVERYONE, BUT:
**On a forum I read, basically, DON'T follow the directions. When you insert it, using the C-fold, let it face down (so it opens away from you). You'll feel it open up, and when it does, I just make sure I push it in all the way. And I NEVER try to rotate it, because on the forum they say it breaks the seal.

^^^^HAVEN'T HAD ONE LEAK PROBLEM SINCE!!

                To sum it up:
I only have to change it 4 times or so even with my heavy flow, and I only do it that often just to be safe!! I could change it 2-3 times and still be fine. I can sleep through the night and wake up with no problems. I have NO LEAKS, NO BLOATING, NO CRAMPY/ACHY-FEELINGS, NO DRYNESS, and not as much cramping. That first week, I also cleaned/reinserted it in public restrooms 3 times. NO PROBLEMS!! just relax!!!

Another tip: if you worry about it getting stuck and are nervous about taking it out.... I am an athlete and very active/fit. If you know how to use your muscles you won't have to go digging for it. When it's time to take the cup out, I literally use my muscles to push the cup down. I can literally push until I SEE the tip come out.... so when it's close to coming out I just grab it!

ENJOY PEOPLE. it's worth the money.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 1, 1 ea:

I have currently used this product for just 24 hours now and I can say without a doubt I will never, EVER return to using tampons and pads! I thoroughly read the directions after receiving it in the mail months ago (I hadn't had a period since I stopped using birth control (Nuvaring) and so this is the first chance I've had at using it) and I have waited and anticipated how it would go. The first time I put it in I was unsure if I did it correctly and worried about leaks. I decided after 3-4 hours to try and take it out to see how things were going on and such. While I found it to be difficult to take out, it was my first time doing it and, frankly, I've never had something suctioned in my vagina before! So after I put it back in and was confident with it, I worked an eight hour shift, constantly on my feet and walking, and left it in for 12 hours. I haven't had my period in about four months now and so my flow is as heavy as it gets right now and the cup was just about half full, if that. Now I'm much more comfortable taking the cup out and it only takes about a minute to do. Like with anything new, it will take getting used to and I know the more I do it the easier and quicker it will get. Now I have also slept 8 hours with it in and no leaks and no problems. I cannot even feel it's in (and I have not had to and will not cut off the extra tip on the bottom)! It is so easy and to not have to worry about tampons, the money saved, and the ease of mind is more than enough to make up my mind!
