I can't imagine not having this. When I think of all the years I spent confined to the house as much as possible during my period, and all the invitations turned down, and all the plans cancelled, I could cry! Since I got my Divacup, I don't have to stop my life in order to sit home and bleed! If you are a heavy bleeder, get one, trust me, it will change your whole outlook on that time of the month. Getting my period is no longer panic-inducing. I don't have to schedule around it, because I know that even on my heaviest days, I can put this in, and go for hours without worrying about embarrassing leaking, ruining my clothes, or wearing both tampons and pads. (In the summer that's particularly not-fun) I also have found my cramps to be much less severe with this, than with tampons. Correlation isn't causation, but it was noticably better, for me.

Emptying it discreetly in public is possible, even in the tiniest of bathrooms. It doesn't take any longer than tampons, and it won't clog up your pipes. There's no embarrassing odor in your trash and it's far more eco-friendly than anything else available. Re-usable pads can be a little awkward since you have to carry the used pad around with you until you get home to soak and launder it.

Please, if you have a daughter or a young female relative..introduce them to this. For someone who is active or athletic, it's ideal. You can move freely during the day, or toss and turn at night and it doesn't shift around, or bunch up. When correctly placed, you don't feel it at all, and you can wear it on a day you think you might start, just in case, or until the very very end of your flow, without turning your vajayjay into the sahara.

I've used this product for four months now. I have been menstruating 25 years, married 13, with four children. I know my body. I also have a college degree, which should not be necessary to use this product. I give one star because there is one reason I can see to use this: it is environmentally friendly. My commitment to the environment is being seriously tested.

The diva cup does not create a suction seal, or any kind of seal in my vagina. On heavy days, it leaks worse than a tampon. And this is after 4 MONTHS of trying, and contacting customer service (by email, which is the ONLY way to get in touch with them), and getting only a word-for-word copy of the instructions included with the product back from them.

Furthermore, using the diva cup is not for the faint-hearted. You will be reaching all the way up inside your bloody vagina EVERY time you insert or remove this. Even with meticulous hand washing before and after, I keep managing to get little bacterial infections (the kind that make it burn to pee) when I use this. AARRGH! Really?

Also, using this anywhere other than home is a nightmare. How do you come out of a stall with blood all over your fingers, under your nails, and just looking nasty? (Much less with the bloody, dripping diva cup itself, to wash it--which you just can't do in public.)

This may be the last month I use this product. I really would like it to work. It is okay when I am at home and it's a light day (though the messiness and cross-contamination is still obnoxious), but other than that, this is a nightmare. I've been trying to figure out how this got so many high reviews. Perhaps at age 34, my vagina is not young and tight enough to make this work? I don't know, but I hope this review is helpful to others who want a real look at this product. Good luck, if you buy!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I ordered this product to be more green and the reviews were good. I was hoping it would elliminate the use for tampons, which I've been using since my second period! I inserted it in the evening thinking it'd be easier the first time around to be at home. I must have put it in wrong as I was leaking at night. However when I went to retrieve it, it had creeped up and was very difficult to get out. Uncomfortably so.. Not sure I want to go through that process again.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

This is a great product once you get the hang of it and so much better for your body and the earth. The biggest problem I ran into is that in public restrooms if I emptied my bladder or had a bowel movement it would come out (I have had two children and I do not think this would happen to everyone). I will not leave a stall and rinse a bloody cup while other people are washing their hands. So tips, try to avoid having to remove or clean it when not at home. I have very heavy periods and have to empty it about every four hours on those days although it worked great overnight. If it does come out or you need to empty it in a public bathroom make sure you wash your hands well before entering the stall. Remove it, empty into toilet, wrap in tp, and finish doing your business. Then use toilet paper to absorb any remaining blood out of the cup and re-insert because honestly it's going to get messy again right away. Wash it well when you empty it at home. Enjoy never buying tampons again! (I do use a panty liner with it though. you will sometimes get spots from blood that was in the track when you put in the cup or if it gets too full).

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I admit, the Diva Cup is definitely not for everyone. But I agree you must at least try it. It did take a few tries to get the hang of using it, but I've been using it now for a year and it's a life saver. I am 36 and have had 3 children. After my 3rd child my menstration took a turn for the worst. I could no longer use tampons, and was flying through pads like crazy. I found staying at home during my period was easier than than carrying around a bag full of supplies, and running to the bathroom every hour or so. The Diva Cup allows me the confidence of going out without hesitation. On my heavy days I wear a panty liner, just in case, but end up only having to empty the cup maybe every 6 hours without any accidents. On light days I only have to empty and clean the cup once a day.
I have read several negative comments about the cup, but like I said before, it's not for everyone and every female body is different. Not everyone is going to like or be able to adapt to this product, but you must try it to see if it will work for you.

The DivaCup took a couple of cycles to get used to. Now that I have figured out my own flow (two heavy days I have to empty it three times a day, three light days only once a day) I love this product!!
It is so nice not having to carry and hide tampons. Plus no chemicals to inter-fear with my cycle.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I have used this product for over 5 years. I can say I have saved the cost of the initial purchase several times over, to say nothing of the costs associated with the manufacture and disposal of all the hundreds and thousands of "disposable" feminine products over that time. I will say that if I have a long day ahead of me, and I may not know when I'll be able to conveniently use a bathroom, or overnight on those days when you know you would have to get up in the middle of the night to be sure you're still protected, I will use a thin pad. On light days, I can put it in before work, and then come home and take it out, and I could never have been comfortable with tampons that long. The only flaw is that sometimes it's hard to know if you've got the placement right, and you can have a leak because of that. You really do have to be sure you've given it the quarter turn that they describe when you insert it; even then, very infrequently I still have to re-adjust. But, even despite that, I find this to be a terrific, reliable product. In fact after having one for a couple months, I realized if I bought a second, I could switch between them for ease of cleaning, so I did! It's still worked out to be cheaper than tampons or pads over time!

I love this product! I've been using it for a little over four months and will never go back to tampons. It works better than tampons (no leaking!), I have to change it far less often, and it costs less. (And I don't have to worry about whether or not I have enough tampons to get me throught my period.) I didn't find it hard to insert at all. I practiced once before my actual period and that was it.

The only downside is it is harder to change in a public restroom. This is usually very avoidable, however, since you change it less frequently and it's reusable so I just always make sure and empty it out before I go somewhere for long periods of time.

It is messier to change, but I feel like my period overall is less messy with it so it is more than worth it for me.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

This is simply the best protection I've ever used for my heavy flow. The cup is comfortable once inserted, my biggest issue is potential mess during removal (if you don't have the entire cup base grasped firmly upon removal, it has a tendency to "flip" out quickly and can cause a mess). Insertion is super easy, and I've gotten braver and begun using it during travel and in public restrooms in general. This is not only a superior product to super or super plus tampons in the absorption department, it has the bonus of being green and better suited to the female anatomy/does not upset my PH balance the way tampons can. On my heaviest days I wear a reusable cloth line "just in case" but have only needed them on a couple occasions, and on my lighter days I don't even worry about wearing an additional pad...after having my period for 25 years, I'd consider this to be a miracle product. :)

Desperate for something other than tampons (which had started to irritate) and pads (which feel similar to a diaper) I took a chance on the DivaCup. Having read the reviews, it was a mixed bag, some users absolutely loving the product and others less than thrilled with it. I have now used the product through three cycles and have had leaks just twice, both of which were my own fault as I should have changed the cup more often. Usually, when using tampons (Super) I experienced multiple leaks each cycle, as I have a very heavy flow. That being said, I would never go back to using tampons or pads as this product outperforms and is more comfortable than both. Great product, so glad I found it!
