I can't imagine not having this. When I think of all the years I spent confined to the house as much as possible during my period, and all the invitations turned down, and all the plans cancelled, I could cry! Since I got my Divacup, I don't have to stop my life in order to sit home and bleed! If you are a heavy bleeder, get one, trust me, it will change your whole outlook on that time of the month. Getting my period is no longer panic-inducing. I don't have to schedule around it, because I know that even on my heaviest days, I can put this in, and go for hours without worrying about embarrassing leaking, ruining my clothes, or wearing both tampons and pads. (In the summer that's particularly not-fun) I also have found my cramps to be much less severe with this, than with tampons. Correlation isn't causation, but it was noticably better, for me.

Emptying it discreetly in public is possible, even in the tiniest of bathrooms. It doesn't take any longer than tampons, and it won't clog up your pipes. There's no embarrassing odor in your trash and it's far more eco-friendly than anything else available. Re-usable pads can be a little awkward since you have to carry the used pad around with you until you get home to soak and launder it.

Please, if you have a daughter or a young female relative..introduce them to this. For someone who is active or athletic, it's ideal. You can move freely during the day, or toss and turn at night and it doesn't shift around, or bunch up. When correctly placed, you don't feel it at all, and you can wear it on a day you think you might start, just in case, or until the very very end of your flow, without turning your vajayjay into the sahara.

I've used this product for four months now. I have been menstruating 25 years, married 13, with four children. I know my body. I also have a college degree, which should not be necessary to use this product. I give one star because there is one reason I can see to use this: it is environmentally friendly. My commitment to the environment is being seriously tested.

The diva cup does not create a suction seal, or any kind of seal in my vagina. On heavy days, it leaks worse than a tampon. And this is after 4 MONTHS of trying, and contacting customer service (by email, which is the ONLY way to get in touch with them), and getting only a word-for-word copy of the instructions included with the product back from them.

Furthermore, using the diva cup is not for the faint-hearted. You will be reaching all the way up inside your bloody vagina EVERY time you insert or remove this. Even with meticulous hand washing before and after, I keep managing to get little bacterial infections (the kind that make it burn to pee) when I use this. AARRGH! Really?

Also, using this anywhere other than home is a nightmare. How do you come out of a stall with blood all over your fingers, under your nails, and just looking nasty? (Much less with the bloody, dripping diva cup itself, to wash it--which you just can't do in public.)

This may be the last month I use this product. I really would like it to work. It is okay when I am at home and it's a light day (though the messiness and cross-contamination is still obnoxious), but other than that, this is a nightmare. I've been trying to figure out how this got so many high reviews. Perhaps at age 34, my vagina is not young and tight enough to make this work? I don't know, but I hope this review is helpful to others who want a real look at this product. Good luck, if you buy!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

So I just checked when I purchased this and it was in March of 2012 - over two years now. I have used this every period since. However, after the first time I inserted - not too difficult - I was unsure it was going to come out. I panicked. I read every review I could. But I could not get the thing out.

I tried to calm myself down and stopped trying for a few hours. After a while I was finally able to grab the stem part and gently pull down till I could reach the cup to pinch and remove. I was really scared to try again because that scared me so much but I read that it's a bit of getting used to and that once you do it's much easier. Well those people weren't lying, it wasn't long before I was a pro.

I'm much more comfortable with my body now and don't mind kind of reaching in to grab it or adjust it if I need to. I find using a bit of lubricating gel helps with insertion but too much makes it more difficult. I use the "C" method - I put some gel on the lip part and gently push it in. I find it tends to adjust itself once it's inside and I know it's in right, when I can't feel it. I've had very few leaks over the two years of use.

I don't have extremely heavy periods so I'm able to wait till I'm at home to empty it and usually only do it there. It can be pretty messy but periods in general are messy. Once I pull it out, I empty in the toilet and then was in the sink. I bought a very small pot - used only for this - that I boil it in after each cycle.

I have saved money and the environment. The real draw for me was to help with cramps which it really doesn't but I'm pretty much a lifer for this thing. It's not for all but I think it's a great product and I'm glad I found it.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

The Diva Cup has transformed my periods. Since I take the pill, I can keep it with me the day before I should start and then once I do, I only have to empty it 2 or 3 times a day depending on how heavy. The turning it as the directions state is the hardest part, but after some practice, it became much easier. I have been happily using it for over a year now. The only time I am unable to use it is after, um, relations with my husband. I normally need to wait an hour (I'll use something else during this time) as it is very uncomfortable if I try to use it immediately after. Besides these two things, I can't tell you how awesome this product is!! Saves money, less chances of leaks (however I do wear a liner just because), and the endless hassles of tampons is finally over.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I've used the Diva Cup (size 2) for over a year. I haven't leaked since the first month using it. I no longer feel the need to wear a liner as a 'just in case' like I typically had to wear a heavy pad with my tampons prior to the cup. I can wear anything I want and not be concerned about pads or leaks.

It is very messy to insert and remove because the blood is not absorbed into something. It requires cleanliness habits and a strong stomach for some. I got over the grossness pretty easily. The difficult tricks to master: making certain it opens fully inside yourself (you'll have to feel around the whole of the bottom to make sure there are no creases in the cup still and perhaps will have to push against your vaginal walls to create space for the cup to expand if your muscles are too tight at the moment--this is part of that relaxing when inserting a tampon trick-master that and you'll have an easier time of this). Gripping the bottom of the cup (just above the stem) to turn it for a seal. Lastly, trimming that stem, this one took me two months to get down to the right size for me so that I rarely feel it now. Though I rarely, if ever, utilize that stem, I don't dare get rid of it completely as there is that once in a blue moon need to grasp it to get a better grip upon removal.

If you don't have a strong stomach, don't try this. It is gross. That said, I love my cup for the lack of leaks (I can easily go 10+hrs without concerns therefore cleaning it in public is not necessary most days and I can take the time to find a private or family restroom if absolutely required). I love it for the fact that I do not feel the need to have a back-up pad.

Recently learned of these...bought it immediately. I have extremely heavy cycles and this has been a godsend. I have saved so much on feminine products since I have found this. I have used this for the past 3 months and although, I was a bit nervous at first, I am now very comfortable using this and can't say enough about it. So glad I discovered it and wish I had found it way sooner.

I ordered this product to be more green and the reviews were good. I was hoping it would elliminate the use for tampons, which I've been using since my second period! I inserted it in the evening thinking it'd be easier the first time around to be at home. I must have put it in wrong as I was leaking at night. However when I went to retrieve it, it had creeped up and was very difficult to get out. Uncomfortably so.. Not sure I want to go through that process again.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

This is a great product once you get the hang of it and so much better for your body and the earth. The biggest problem I ran into is that in public restrooms if I emptied my bladder or had a bowel movement it would come out (I have had two children and I do not think this would happen to everyone). I will not leave a stall and rinse a bloody cup while other people are washing their hands. So tips, try to avoid having to remove or clean it when not at home. I have very heavy periods and have to empty it about every four hours on those days although it worked great overnight. If it does come out or you need to empty it in a public bathroom make sure you wash your hands well before entering the stall. Remove it, empty into toilet, wrap in tp, and finish doing your business. Then use toilet paper to absorb any remaining blood out of the cup and re-insert because honestly it's going to get messy again right away. Wash it well when you empty it at home. Enjoy never buying tampons again! (I do use a panty liner with it though. you will sometimes get spots from blood that was in the track when you put in the cup or if it gets too full).

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I admit, the Diva Cup is definitely not for everyone. But I agree you must at least try it. It did take a few tries to get the hang of using it, but I've been using it now for a year and it's a life saver. I am 36 and have had 3 children. After my 3rd child my menstration took a turn for the worst. I could no longer use tampons, and was flying through pads like crazy. I found staying at home during my period was easier than than carrying around a bag full of supplies, and running to the bathroom every hour or so. The Diva Cup allows me the confidence of going out without hesitation. On my heavy days I wear a panty liner, just in case, but end up only having to empty the cup maybe every 6 hours without any accidents. On light days I only have to empty and clean the cup once a day.
I have read several negative comments about the cup, but like I said before, it's not for everyone and every female body is different. Not everyone is going to like or be able to adapt to this product, but you must try it to see if it will work for you.

The DivaCup took a couple of cycles to get used to. Now that I have figured out my own flow (two heavy days I have to empty it three times a day, three light days only once a day) I love this product!!
It is so nice not having to carry and hide tampons. Plus no chemicals to inter-fear with my cycle.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I have used this product for over 5 years. I can say I have saved the cost of the initial purchase several times over, to say nothing of the costs associated with the manufacture and disposal of all the hundreds and thousands of "disposable" feminine products over that time. I will say that if I have a long day ahead of me, and I may not know when I'll be able to conveniently use a bathroom, or overnight on those days when you know you would have to get up in the middle of the night to be sure you're still protected, I will use a thin pad. On light days, I can put it in before work, and then come home and take it out, and I could never have been comfortable with tampons that long. The only flaw is that sometimes it's hard to know if you've got the placement right, and you can have a leak because of that. You really do have to be sure you've given it the quarter turn that they describe when you insert it; even then, very infrequently I still have to re-adjust. But, even despite that, I find this to be a terrific, reliable product. In fact after having one for a couple months, I realized if I bought a second, I could switch between them for ease of cleaning, so I did! It's still worked out to be cheaper than tampons or pads over time!
