I can't imagine not having this. When I think of all the years I spent confined to the house as much as possible during my period, and all the invitations turned down, and all the plans cancelled, I could cry! Since I got my Divacup, I don't have to stop my life in order to sit home and bleed! If you are a heavy bleeder, get one, trust me, it will change your whole outlook on that time of the month. Getting my period is no longer panic-inducing. I don't have to schedule around it, because I know that even on my heaviest days, I can put this in, and go for hours without worrying about embarrassing leaking, ruining my clothes, or wearing both tampons and pads. (In the summer that's particularly not-fun) I also have found my cramps to be much less severe with this, than with tampons. Correlation isn't causation, but it was noticably better, for me.

Emptying it discreetly in public is possible, even in the tiniest of bathrooms. It doesn't take any longer than tampons, and it won't clog up your pipes. There's no embarrassing odor in your trash and it's far more eco-friendly than anything else available. Re-usable pads can be a little awkward since you have to carry the used pad around with you until you get home to soak and launder it.

Please, if you have a daughter or a young female relative..introduce them to this. For someone who is active or athletic, it's ideal. You can move freely during the day, or toss and turn at night and it doesn't shift around, or bunch up. When correctly placed, you don't feel it at all, and you can wear it on a day you think you might start, just in case, or until the very very end of your flow, without turning your vajayjay into the sahara.

I've used this product for four months now. I have been menstruating 25 years, married 13, with four children. I know my body. I also have a college degree, which should not be necessary to use this product. I give one star because there is one reason I can see to use this: it is environmentally friendly. My commitment to the environment is being seriously tested.

The diva cup does not create a suction seal, or any kind of seal in my vagina. On heavy days, it leaks worse than a tampon. And this is after 4 MONTHS of trying, and contacting customer service (by email, which is the ONLY way to get in touch with them), and getting only a word-for-word copy of the instructions included with the product back from them.

Furthermore, using the diva cup is not for the faint-hearted. You will be reaching all the way up inside your bloody vagina EVERY time you insert or remove this. Even with meticulous hand washing before and after, I keep managing to get little bacterial infections (the kind that make it burn to pee) when I use this. AARRGH! Really?

Also, using this anywhere other than home is a nightmare. How do you come out of a stall with blood all over your fingers, under your nails, and just looking nasty? (Much less with the bloody, dripping diva cup itself, to wash it--which you just can't do in public.)

This may be the last month I use this product. I really would like it to work. It is okay when I am at home and it's a light day (though the messiness and cross-contamination is still obnoxious), but other than that, this is a nightmare. I've been trying to figure out how this got so many high reviews. Perhaps at age 34, my vagina is not young and tight enough to make this work? I don't know, but I hope this review is helpful to others who want a real look at this product. Good luck, if you buy!

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I'm a 44 year old with very heavy flow. In recent years I've had challenges with large clots in my cycle as well. (Ladies, be sure to check with your OB GYN if you have the same. Probably not a problem, but you may develop iron issues.) Because of the heavy flow, I was using the largest capacity tampons & was changing them every 3-4 hours, sometimes even more frequently. Liners were required & changed frequently as well. The clots were incredibly messy. My doctor offered options including surgery to lessen the flow, but that seemed extreme. So I tried this cup for the first time this month.

I was worried about discomfort. I was worried about mess. I carried tampons for the first day just in case things just didn't work out. And...

So great! Yes, it takes time to get used to how to insert it. Read the instructions & follow them. Relax, you'll get it. If you're not already, this will give you an opportunity to become more familiar with your anatomy. When I first saw it, it seemed huge in comparison to a tampon. How could it be comfortably inserted, much less worn? For those of you who are sexually active you'll soon realize that this is no bigger than... you know. Beyond that, this was a fantastic solution to my challenges. No more need to carry tampons. My office is on one end of a resort & I spend half my day no where near it. Carrying a purse around is awkward. It made for some odd trips across property just to get to my supply. No more fear of overflow. No more worrying about if there is enough of a back-up supply in my purse or office or bathroom drawer.

Twelve hours is longer than I can go on the heaviest days due to the clots, but I can certainly go 4-8 hours which is plenty. The nature of the cup allows you to use it at the first hint of your cycle & right through until you are sure you're done. Tampons can be uncomfortable if you are only lightly spotting, but the cup is not.

Every woman has her own comfort level. If you are curious, just try it.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I will never use anything else! Before purchasing the DivaCup , I used enstead (softcup) . They worked extremely well, especially during sex, but put too much pressure on my bladder. After 10 years of use it became an issue. A friend recommended the DivaCup and 5 years later I'm still using it. Bladder issues gone! The mess can be a bit tricky while using public facilities. I found carrying wipes eliminated clean up embarrassment. The effect of environmental waste is virtually eliminated by using this product . Also, silicone is much safer than plastics and pesticide / bleached cotton. My only minor complaint ...no sex.

    Size is not correct

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I followed instructions for sizing based on age. It was too large. Corresponded with company who was not willing to exchange for smaller size. Tried small size from company online called skoon cup. Fits perfect. They also will exchange or return for free. Disappointed that diva cup not interested in making sure the customer is happy with correct product. Expensive to buy if unusable. I'm sure it's not that expensive for them to make. Would not recommend this company as this is new territory for many and help is appreciated in getting it right.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I'm new to menstrual cups. A few months ago I ordered one that's a different brand and it never fit right. It was uncomfortable and a mess. I was hesitant to buy another one, but I really like the idea of not needing tampons. The Diva Cup is perfect for me. It's very comfortable. I don't even notice it. I have a heavier than average flow and it held up well. The only leak I had was from not inserting it correctly the first time I used it. My only complaint, that I have for any cup is how to remove it without getting my hands dirty. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that's looking to try out menstrual cups.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

This is my first period using the Diva Cup. My periods have been very heavy since giving birth (15 years ago). I was at my wits end with tampons, as I had to use super+ tampon as well as a panty liner, and I got leaks even when my period was light! I was disgusted by the number of used tampons in the trash, and having to tote supplies everywhere, even keeping a stash in my desk at work. The first few times inserting and removing have been difficult. The trick I tell myself, as the instructions say, insert BACK TOWARD TAILBONE...NOT UP AND IN like with a tampon. That is the tough part to remember. Back, not up. Once figuring that out, it's become easier. If at home, I put one foot on toilet and one on the floor, and that makes insertion and removal much easier for me. I still wear a liner to avoid a mess, but I'm hoping with time and practice, I can be free of that! I guess the key is, don't give up.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

So far this product hasn't leaked a drop, nomatter how heavy my days are. It takes a few minutes to settle into place once inserted but, afterward, it's not even noticable. Some of my biggest concers were using the toilet. No problem. It stays put until you take it out. The seal is incredible. I recommend this product for everyone who doesn't mind that time of the month products that you insert. These will replace tampons. Mark my words.

Its only difficult to use at first but once you get the hang of it, its not too bad. I love not having to tote a bunch of pads or tampons around in my purse. The protection is definitely better then pads or tampons.

Read the instructions over again if you're having difficulty getting the DivaCup into place. Yeah, it's messy removing the first couple times, but once you figure it out it's not bad and you can do so in the privacy of your own bathroom within the 12 hour time frame(huge plus!!). I no longer have to 'take inventory' of tampons or carry them in my purse or discretely to the bathroom!

Ok, I'm only on my second day using it but I am so glad I bought it. I hated the leaking tampons and overflowing pads. This is perfect. I finally made it through a night without trashing a pair of underwear.

Like everyone says, getting it in and positioned right then getting it back out is taking some practice. The first time I had to take it out it had worked its way pretty far up but I just grabbed the stem (I haven't trimmed mine) and slowly worked it out. The trick is to relax!

It really is no grosser than using a pad or tampon. Haven't gotten anything on myself yet and I'm an amateur at this.

Comments about The DivaCup Model 2, 1 ea:

I can't say enough good things about this product. I was actually upset for all the years of periods I've had without it. There's a little learning curve, really just the first day, and after that being on your period is the same as not being on your period. I'm 34 with no kids and I got size 2 and cut the stem off and I can't feel it in there. I was uncomfortable walking with it in with the stem on, but that was a simple little fix. Now when Aunt Flo comes barreling into my life, there's no tragic mess to contend with every time you use the restroom (maxi pad users holla if you hear me) and emptying it out actually isn't as gross as it sounds. I've worn it in 12 hour increments and it's amazing. You can put it in before you start so no more running to the bathroom to check every 45 mins. No more overnight sheet ruination. I have endometriosis so I was looking for an alternative to tampons (which make cramps worse) and pads (which are super gross). This little nugget fit the bill! It feels so much cleaner and more sanitary than traditional pads and tampons.
