Comments about The Laundress Signature Detergent, Classic, 33.3 fl oz: I like the idea that this is an environmentally friendly product, but beyond that, I wasn't that impressed, especially for the price. I beg to differ with other reviewers about the scent - it smells much like the perfume choices my grandmother used to make, and it is strong right out of the washer. It even left a lingering smell on my hands after transferring the clothes from washer to dryer, and leaves a lingering smell inside the washer as well, a no-no for me. Fortunately, the dryer negates most of the odor. I don't see much difference in cleaning action between this and any other pedestrian brand of laundry soap. I did buy the bleach alternative as well, which is in powder form, by the way. No great shakes there, either. I'm hesitant about dumping it because it was so expensive, but the smell is just too overwhelming. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend (2 of 2 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful? Comments about The Laundress Signature Detergent, Classic, 33.3 fl oz: This thick, concentrated laundry detergent is just lovely. The classic scent is a combination of sweet musk, citrus, ylang ylang and sandalwood/patchouli. Does not smell medicinal, but soapy, clean and fresh. Does a decent job of cleaning, and it contains enzymes & a bleach alternative. Does not come with a measuring scoop & it's too messy to use the lid, so I just eye ball it and use a little squirt. Even though it is concentrated, I just can't bring myself to use a [$] laundry detergent for regular washings, so I use some unscented tide then add a little of this and the fabric softener from this same company. Clothes come out clean and smell so good, but I stretch this detergent a little longer this way. Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Comments about The Laundress Signature Detergent, Classic, 33.3 fl oz: This detergent got my clothes really clean! Since I rent and the washer in my building isn't the best, this is easier said than done. I recommend pretreating collars with a bit of the product directly applied if you also don't have the optimal machine. But I didn't have any of the streaking/gumminess I often get from other detergents in my particular washer. I air dry my laundry to save energy and make the clothes last longer, and found them to be particularly soft and pleasant to the touch. And I love the smell-- very classy. It comes out cost-wise as using something else because you don't need much. All the while, you are getting a great product with no dangerous chemicals, etc.. Comments about The Laundress Signature Detergent, Classic, 33.3 fl oz: This review is based on my use of The Laundress Original fragrance, used alone, or in conjunction with Bleach Alternative. I airdry whenever its possible, but most of the time there's not enough time or space for it. I like to use special detergents for washing my bedsheets and some of my towels. One of the things I look for is fragrance. Lots of people dislike fragranced laundry, but I'm exactly the opposite. While I don't like heavy chemical smells, I love when detergents use natural fragrances from essential oils or dried flowers. I bought Jane Inc.'s Sweet Sheets laundry products here at Drugstore.com for years, but it seems these wonderful cleaners were discontinued. I've been searching for a replacement, and all the positive reviews made ordering The Laundress a no-brainer. As the other reviews state, this detergent is a fantastic cleaner that leaves clothing and bedsheets fluffy and fresh; not filmy and limp. I refuse to use any household cleaners that aren't "green" and I can't say enough about how much I appreciate Drugstore.com's ever-expanding range of green selections. As for The Laundress, I bought "original" fragrance with the hopes that it was as pleasant and lingering as reviewers described it. One reviewer called it "perfumey", and that was the selling point for me! Here in Southern California, we have horribly hard water, full of chlorine, calcium deposits, and who knows what...so getting fragrance via washing machine is no easy feat. There are times when I use 6 or 7 lavender sachets in addition to fabric softener, in order to get laundry to smell nice. When sniffing the liquid in the bottle, The Laundress detergent smells...nice...it's fragrance doesn't seem unusual or extraordinary. It smells soapy, and clean to me. Like Ivory soap, which has a nice, but bland fragrance. Sadly, when I remove clothing and sheets after they've gone through the wash cycle, they have little or no scent. Too much detergent in my High Efficiency machine ruins my clothing and clogs my machine, so adding more detergent won't help. Except for the Original fragrance's inability to penetrate my hard water, this detergent is everything it claims to be. It's really an excellent, fine formulation that lends the task of washing bedsheets an air of elegance. Perhaps using the fabric fragrance and/or fabric conditioner will help enhance the fragrance. I will continue to use this for bedsheets because it's the best I've found since Sweet Sheets. In addition, I'm going to try other Laundress fragrances to see if they can withstand my water. The Laundress has a formulation fragranced with "Le Labo Rose 31" that I would love to try, but, call me crazy, I hesitate to pay $45.00 for 14 oz. of detergent. If I were single, and didn't have three kids, 2 cats, and enough laundry to fill a hotel, then, maybe. (Probably not.)
