Yes, yes, I know this is not the most frugal option out there, but it IS the most comfortable and least messy option, which to me makes it worth it. The sponge has always been my favorite contraceptive. I cried the last time it was pulled from store shelves. I've been searching almost every day since. Thank God it's back!! No more messy foams, gels, or other whatnot. This time I'm stocking up. Girls, get the word out so this new manufacturer stays in business!

It pains me to give the Today's sponge a bad review, but I have to because for the first time using in over a decade I've developed an allergic reaction to its ingredients. Maybe the formula has changed over the years or maybe my body composition has changed since I gave birth to my son last year. But I got a vaginal irritation as described, verbatim on the box. So unfortunately I will have to give away my 2nd unopened box of sponges to my sister. I will forever miss using it, it was the favorite form of contraception for me and my husband :0( For those ladies who can still use it enjoy, enjoy enjoy it! And use it for me too !

I did not like this sponge one little bit. I found it a little bit difficult to insert, and VERY difficult to remove. I had to have my husband help me get it out. Talk about unsexy! It's big, odd and uncomfortable. I will not use one again, and I will not recommend it to others. Yuck!

Comments about Today Sponge Vaginal Contraceptive Sponges, 3 ea:

I bought this because my boyfriend and I who hate condoms were planning a romantic night at a hotel the day i happened to be ovulating. I thought this would work perfectly because I have bad reactions to hormones/the pill. The box came with 3 and we had to use all 3 that night because the first one slipped out of place, the second one 'exploded' covering us both in foamy spermicide, and the third one was causing discomfort and burning. a day later and I developed a yeast infection that has lead to a UTI. The romantic night was also ruined because we had to run out to a 24hr pharmacy to get Plan B. I wouldn't use this again.

Comments about Today Sponge Vaginal Contraceptive Sponges, 3 ea:

I cannot use hormonal birth control, yet my husband and I are not ready to have kids. This somewhat limits our options. I like that these sponges provide some spontaneity, as they can be left in for 24 hours. Also, they seem to work just fine. We've haven't had any pregnancies while using them, which is the most important thing.

What I don't like about the sponges is the insertion and removal process. I've gone through 2 boxes of these now and I cannot, for the life of me, get one in unless I've had a couple drinks. I guess I'm just not relaxed enough normally. But in my defense, the thing is like a huge donut that is delicate and has to be positioned perfectly. It is beyond awkward. On my first attempt, the sponge got torn apart, had to be tossed, and we ended up using a condom instead. After my first successful sponge use, I had a horrible time getting it out the next morning. The "strap" was nowhere to be found and I had to use the "bear down" method to get it out. It took a considerable amount of time and many unsuccessful tries. I was getting panicky thinking about the humiliation of seeking medical assistance in such a matter. Thankfully, it finally popped out. I now don't bother with the strap, and just use the bear down method each time.

My final criticism is that my husband did get some pretty nasty chafing from the elastic strap/ loop the last time we used one. I don't know if the sponge wasn't positioned properly or what, but he was less than thrilled.

Overall, these are okay. If they were cheaper, I'd buy them more often. For now, I prefer to buy Conceptrol spermicide in pre-filled applicators. They're messier and lack the spontaneity of sponges, but they're cheaper and much easier to use.

My husband and I have used the sponge for several years now. I would rather pay a little more for hormone free birth control than use the pill anyday. There are no side effects or increase risks for cancer when using the Sponge! We love the sponge! I am a nutritionist and have researched the effects of using birth control such as nutritional deficiency's, candida and possible cancers. It's just not worth it, try the sponge!

I was so happy to find a non-hormonal, non-condom birth control method. It's easy to insert (I used to use the NuvaRing) and my partner said he couldn't tell it was in. The only downside is there is a lot of spermicide so it's kind of messy and it did flip around the second time I used it, which obviously negated the barrier appeal.

I love this product! My boyfriend and I usually stick to using condoms, but it gets to be a nuisance putting it on and having that pause when we're in the mood. Plus we hate the feeling of them. But with the sponge, I can put it in and we're set for the whole night. It's easy to use and I can't feel a thing when it's in. It might be a tad bit messy but only during insertion and removal. It's pricey but it beats having a kid.

I use this as a replacement to hormonal methods. I have used it for several months now on and off. First few times I used it I think I wet it too much and it created too much foam that irritated my skin very badly. Since learning from that, although my skin is not irritated I have a recurrent yeast infection. I have Never had a yeast infection product to using this product. I will probably go to my gyno for a barrier method that uses less spermicide (which i think is the culprit). Despite that, this is a good method--wish it didn't irritate me. I have gotten a discount from buying right from the company website. Meyer Brands.

After having issues with hormonal birth control i thought (and hoped) the sponge would be my solution. I also figured since i use tampons that i could handle using the today sponge.
I tried multiple times to get it inserted, and i just couldnt get it right. It was difficult to push up. Also i was very anxious that i wouldn't be able to get it back out. Lastly, i experienced some vaginal discomfort after my attempts to insert it.
Even if i had gotten it inserted, im not even sure i would be in the mood after that... Im still rating it three stars though because nothing was wrong with the product, it just wasn't for me.

I think this is probably the best over the counter 'pregnancy prevention' method out there. I've been using the sponge for about 2 months now. At first it was a little hard for me to place the sponge properly over my cervix but you get used to it. I like that you can put it in hours before your date leave it in hours after sex. It makes in convenient. But so far no complaints from my boyfriend about feeling it inside me, and no complaints from me either.
