Tom's makes several flavors. I've tried this one and the 'fennel' flavor. This one is much better. Rembrandt makes an SLS-free toothpaste, but it doesn't foam enough. Squigle makes a decent one (Google it). All three brands work. I used to have at least one canker sore at all times, but I either never get them now, or just get one every two months or so. This toothpaste is certainly more expensive than a Crest or Colgate, but those two will leave you in pain. Whoever discovered the SLS causes canker sores is a genius. I never, EVER, leave reviews on products, but felt really strong about leaving one here. Sounds overdramatic, but this really is life changing. I did notice my canker sores went away faster using Tom's. I recommend using Tom's if you have canker sores. REVIEWS Reviewed by 61 customers Sort by Displaying reviews 1-10 Previous | Next » Pros

Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: This toothpaste in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide have changed my life! I used to suffer from multipule monthly canker sores before switching to this tooth paste. Since switching I have only have had one or two in the last year and they only lasted a couple days instead of a week+! Best discovery I have ever made!! Pros

Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: Love Toms of Maine toothpaste. My husband wasn't a fan at first, the flavour is so strong due to the natural mint but we recently had to use a mainstream brand on vacation and he HATED it - insisted I buy multiple packs of Toms from now on! Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: I love Tom's of Maine. But this toothpaste is not good. It has a strange saccharin taste to it that tastes kind of chemically - which is what I hate about regular toothpastes. Plus it just disintegrates in seconds - it's like you're brushing your teeth with nothing. We are going to throw this away and go back to the non-fluoride whitening. Sorry, Tom's! Pros

Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: I need an SLS-free toothpaste because SLS gives me painful mouth sores. It also contains xylitol, which is wonderful if you have a dry mouth. (Ask your dentist about it if your mouth is dry!) Pros Cons
Best Uses Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: I used the product for less than a week when I noticed that my gums were much more sensitive and swollen than before. Some would bleed during brushing... Weird that this toothpaste is labeled clean & gentle! My mouth slowly went back to normal after I switched back to Colgate Total. Pros

Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: Logically, people should not be putting sodium lauryl sulfate into their bodies. I cannot understand why we must purchase a higher-priced, specialty product simply to avoid this chemical, as if constant problems with canker sores are somehow the status quo. That should not be the case. But what other commonly available SLS-free toothpaste is out there? Tom's is what I've settled on. The mint flavor is acceptable, and it also contains a little hydrated silica for stain removal/prevention, and fluoride to harden enamel, especially important to me as I drink unfluoridated well water. The tube used to be made of aluminum, which was hard to completely empty, but now plastic is used. I like the plastic tube better because now I am able to drag the tube, bottom to top, over the sharp right angle of the counter edge to get every last bit out. Pros
Cons Best Uses Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) is linked to causing or exacerbating mouth ulcers. Tom's is the only SLS-free toothpaste I have found. All my kids use it and nothing else. Pros

Comments about Tom's of Maine Clean & Gentle with Fluoride Natural Toothpaste, Peppermint, 4.7 oz: I developed perioral dermatitis and spent a couple of hundred dollars on products and prescriptions from two dermatologists. I read online that non-sls toothpaste cleared up other people's dermatitis. I was skeptical- but within a week of using this product, the rash was gone. Used regular toothpaste on a business trip and the rash came back. I would give it five stars but it's not as minty as regular toothpastes. It doesn't foam at all (due to no sls) But it's worth it. ![]() |
