My dentist is always amazed at how clean my teeth are. I recently ran out of this toothpaste and picked up Colgate Total. My teeth were not nearly as clean with Colgate, and did not remain as clean during the day. Toms of Maine cleans my teeth better than any other brand and also does not contain harsh chemicals. My teeth remain squeaky clean throughout the day. I will continue to use Toms of Maine as long as it's available. This new "Whole Care" formulation has xylitol, which, for all its supposed "anti plaque" properties, gives me a weird glucose reaction. Also, the use of silica as a "whitening" agent is laughable because silica is well known as being just a surface cleaner. I know that sounds lame but its true. i used to use arm and hammer baking soda, but i dont anymore since they test on animals. swithced to tom's of maine because they don't test on animals. Pros Cons

But recently, they switched to a plastic tube from the aluminum one. The plastic tube is much harder to use and cannot be rolled up as the toothpaste is used. Also, I suspect that the faint artificial taste that the paste now has is due to the plastic tube. They have also reduced the amount of toothpaste in the tube from 5.2 ounces to 4.7. I'm still using it because I have a number of chemical sensitivities that do not let me use a toothpaste with artificial ingredients in it, but I'm not really very happy about it. Pros Cons
