I ordered a container of these new Tums after Pepcid Complete was mysteriously pulled from the store shelves in November. It works just as well, if not better, and the tablets are slightly smaller and easier to chew and swallow. The flavor isn't as good as the Pepcid, but it's by no means a bad flavor...just not quite as sweet or berryish.
I am so pleased with how well this eliminates heartburn immediately and continues to work all night without taking more.
This is the only heartburn relief I have found. I have been on prescription as well as over the counter stuff for heartburn relief. All did not help or had so many side effects it was worthless continueing on the "relief" heartburn pills. I found these Tums were the cure for me.I use most days especially after anything with a tomato base meal. I don't have side effects. I only take half of a tablet before a meal and if I need I can take the other half of tablet after my meal.. 99% of the time,all I need is that 1 dose before my meal.
I gave it two stars because when I was desperate on vacation, I used this product and it helped me alleviate and control my acid reflux symptoms.
But, yuck, yuck, yuck!
Maybe I was just unlucky, but the tums I got were hard, stale rock-like disks of supposedly berry flavored grit. They were horrible to chew. The gritty texture would not melt or dissolve in any way except to be smaller pieces of gravel that were hard to swallow. I felt like I was mixing concrete in my mouth.
I've used chewable mint tums before, just the regular calcium kind and they were pleasantly flavored and not chalky or gritty at all. I wish I could have said the same about these. The number one symptom of my acid reflux is severe nausea, and that last thing I need when I feel like that is unpleasant medicine.
One of the few low or sodium free antacids and it works. No swelling is important to me. I have used TUMS for years, a Dr recommended for the calcium, I found the antacid effects were good as well.
As I like TUMS products, I was looking forward to this one to even be better considering the size and cost. However I find I have to go back to my old standby-TUMS Regular Strength (I take two) or Extra Strength. These still work just as good as the new one. I wouldn't bother paying the extra price.
