It is very sharp. My first baby nail clipper was Safety 1st, so that's what I'm comparing this to. The Tweezerman is very sharp. It does capture most of the nail clipping as long as the nail clipper is slanted upward. The only downside to this is that the blades doesn't protude out as much as the Safety 1st one, so it's harder to "grab" the nail. It's a great baby nail clipper, but just wish that the blades slants outward a bit more.
