The directions on the package are incorrect. This pill should only be taken during a meal, not after. Also, you must know the cause of your indigestion. You can do serious damage if you are wrong and the HCL enters your esophogus. Make sure you have an antacid on hand if you feel burning.

Due to stomach surgery years ago my stomach does not produce any acid now. Zilt, None!!! I was having the same symptoms as you do with too much acid. I was also getting sick everytime I ate. My doctor did a gastic check and found I had NO acid at all!! He told me that without acid I could get cancer in my stomach.
I made a trip to a Health food store. They recommended Twinlab Betaine HCL caps. I take one cap before each meal and have been a happy camper ever since. I would highly recommend it to anyone have digestive problems.

If you have heartburn--it's not because you have too much acid in your stomach. You have too little. I have used this product as needed--such as when eating too late or when eating something that I know will give me heartburn.

Well, turns out I'm allergic to betaine supplements. Who knew!?!
Moments after taking this product I began to feel a tingling sensation in my mouth, and my lips and eyes swelled. It was recommended that we call an ambulance.

Apparently betaine allergy is rare but quite serious. I tell you this just on the off the chance that you have the same odd reaction. If you do, go the ER or call an ambulance...please don't mess round with allergic reactions. Please read further...

That said, I do want to add this bit...this product DOES WORK and brings many people relief from heartburn, reflux, and upset stomach. I'm bummed that I am allergic to betaine, because despite the bad reaction, my stomach felt GREAT!

The quality of Twinlab products is excellent and as it says on the bottle, this product is well tolerated by most folks. If you decide to use betaine I would recommend Twinlab brand. It is not the fault of the manufacturer that I had an allergic reaction, so I am giving this product 5 stars.

If you have heartburn and you are over the age of 40 years...you
most likely have low acid in your stomach. Any Alternative medicine doctor will tell you that most acid reflux is caused by low
HCL in your stomach, not high stomach acid. I took the "purple pill" for awhile for acid reflux. It stopped the acid but caused a whole myriad of other problems. I developed skin rases, constipation to name a few. I was finally told I had reduced my stomach acid and it churns trying to break up food and causes indigestion and/or reflux.
Try one capsule to start. If there is no burning up your dosage to 3 capsules at each meal. Keep an antacid on hand incase you have burning. Although, I have recommended this supplement to many people and not one person has gotten a burning sensation. Be sure to take it with a full meal. The results are great, improved absorption, no gas or heartburn...especially with a high protein meal. Physcians like prescriptions because they don't make money on natural supplements. We all have HCL in our stomach, it just slows down with age. HCL is a digestive enzyme. We need enzymes to prevent disease from cancer to arthritis! Try it, you will be surprised at the great results!
