It displays well against a white door in dark room. My 6 year old daughter loves it. I don't know if it will survive the first time it gets knocked off the dresser. It is a kind of novelty item, but the colors are bright enough. It is charming. Eats batteries.

Don't waste your money on this -
In order for the rainbow to be vibrant it has to be situated about 5 inches from a wall - it definately does not span across a ceiling as we had anticipated.
It has a warning on the directions not to look at the light source or one could permanantly damage their vision. Tell that to a five year old - when the light has to sit on a counter close to a wall - and that is essentially at their height - and they could easily pick up the item or take a peek right into the light source -
We opened it today - turned it on twice to see the rainbow and now it is getting packed up and 'sent away' - we are going to get one of the more child friendly items on the market. Maybe an adult could use it but it is essentially a 10 minute night light and it isn't a very good looking piece of equipment to have on a desk or bookshelf - it is boring.
so I would pass on this -
I bought it a long time ago and just gave it as a gift yesterday - and when I came back to this website to review it - I saw the price I paid and am shocked I paid that much.
Buyer beware - don't buy it in the first place.

I love the idea, but its construction is flimsy. The "mirror" is just a piece of foil and the lights are low powered. I think you would have better luck buying those tiny squeeze LED lights and pointing it at the wall. I really wish this item had a mode where the colors were always changing (fading in and out), that would make it special. It faded in, but then it just stayed a rainbow.

I had to go through a box of old wires to find one that would fit the jack and then find an appropriately powered adapter. That took awhile and was a headache that shouldnt have to be gone through at the retail price. If I didnt get it on sale I probably would have been pretty upset it didn't come with an adapter.

I like that it doesn't get hot at all, but if I had to choose again, I'd rather buy my homedics soundspa.

The rainbow displays on any wall you like. I am handicap and spend a lot of time in my bedroom. This light makes me feel happy.

I think if this were advertised for use as a nightlight or comfort item for children at bedtime, it would receive better reviews. It doesn't show up very well in a lit room, but in a dark bedroom, it's impressive, especially for toddlers. It will take an AC adapter if you have one or purchase one, and allow you to keep it on all night, it is to stay lit for 10 mins. with the touch of a button if being run on batteries. My daughters 3 and 5 love this for their bedrooms!

My daughters (ages 2 and 5) love the rainbow in my room. We haven't had any issues with it yet, and I purchased a few more as gifts for other little girls we know.

love it..! bought one for my grand daughter and went back and bought one for myself. brought that one to work and showed it to my coworkers and sold mine and went and bought three more..that's all they had left. we all lpve it . you can get more brighter colors the closer you put it to the wall. you can make it go all the way across the ceiling but the colors are not as bright. you still see the colors of the rainbow though just like a real one. sometimes the colors in a real rainbow aren't real real bright...run don't walk and get this one!

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter who is really into just about everything pretty and/or magic. For her, this fits the bill.

I was having a hard time keeping her in her room at night, but now when she gets scared she knows how to turn this on and this has really helped. Great toy.
