I was having symptoms I thought might be indicative of a yeast infection. I had recently seen a TV commercial for the screening kit, so I bought it. The first swab came back mostly yellow with a tiny tinge of darker color, which was confusing, so I tried the second. This time it came back almost entirely dark, indicating a high pH. So I went to the doctor and sure enough, I had bacterial vaginosis and not a yeast infection.

My only complaint is the two swabs were inconsistent, even though I used them exactly as directed both times. But I'm glad I bought the kit because otherwise I would have just treated myself for a yeast infection, which I did not have!

The presenting symptoms of Bacterial Vaginosis are:
1) Presence of a vaginal discharge, which rather than being watery, is of a milky consistency;

2) Vaginal acidity, or pH, being above 4.5;

3) A positive "whiff" test, either unaided or aided by the depositing of a drop or two of potassium hydroxide solution into a teaspoon of the collected vaginal fluid; and

4) The identification of at least 20% of the cells on a microscopic wet mount as "clue cells".

If you have #1 and #2, then I would just use a natural remedy, which will cost as much as ordering this test: tea tree oil suppositories. Use one each night for two weeks.

For yeast infections, make a 50% water and 50% organic apple cider vinegar douche, and use it once a night until your vaginal ph is back to normal.

I had been wanting to try this for sometime, but was hesitant because of the price. After some symptoms, I decided to break down and buy it. I used it and unlike other reviewers, I found it very easy to read and easy to use.

My only reservations are the price. It always seems like products relating to women's health are so very expensive.

If you have to guess...you probably need to just go to the doc...your going to end up having to go anyway even after using this product.

I used this product hoping to find out if I had a yeast infection. I was disapointed to find out that really all this does is tell you if you have normal ph. Well, my tests showed a ph of 7.5 so I called my doctor. Diagnosis: yeast infection. So I ask why was my vaginal ph so high? Because the ph of seman is 7.2-7.6. No where in the literature or on the box does it warn that recent sex could affect the results. So not only was I out the cost of the test but the cost of a doctor's visit....

The testing was easy but it does not help if taking care of the problem. I have had ichey irrations for over two years and everydoctor I have went to trys to doctor me for yeast infection and it is not yeast infection. The testing showed over a 6 and the colorwas greenist yelow. I have told at least 4 doctor what the testshowed and they have done a culture and can not find out what it is. The Good: Easy to use, comfortable to insert

The Bad: 1. The starting color of the paper before u insert is the same color as a normal ph reading. Therefore when u insert the paper if it doesn't change it means u have a normal ph. However, this design only makes me wonder if my ph failed to register. I'd rather the paper be a completely different color than any of the available ph colors on their chart that way it has to change therefore ensuring me that my ph did register on the paper

2. The way the front of the box read made me think that it would tell me definitively if I had a yeast infection. this is not the case. Instead it only tells you that if your ph is normal but you experience certain symptoms then you MIGHT have yeast infection. I was glad to know my PH was normal but really this was not enough info for me. I wanted to know definitely if I had a yeast infection. This test doesn't tell you that...only that you might. Way to expensive for such mediocre information.

** I didn't have any problem deciphering the 4.5 color from the 5.0 color as others have mentioned. Under good light they are clearly different.

I bought this because I had been really itchy, but I wanted to make sure that I was a normal pH. I don't know, but I could tell a clear difference in the colors, and mine came out bright yellow, which meant I was a normal pH. I also liked this because then I didn't have to wait till Monday to go to the doctor and was able to just use a yeast infection kit (which I know may still not be the problem, but it's a start and it doesn't hurt to use a yeast infection treatment if that's what you think it is).

I had BV and used the vagisil test as a way to monitor my progress while being treated by my doctor. I started with a 5.5, which is consistent with BV and after treatment I was able to monitor it until about a month later it tested 4.5! I am pregnant so I use them to monitor every few weeks.
