It makes such a nice creamy lather, and the soap lasts for months! Just wet the brush, then shake off the excess water. Swirl it around the soap and lather up! It's simple to use and I get a great shave! This makes a fantastic gift for any man in your life. Make sure you buy a couple of bars of soap too. I've been using it for around 2 months now, and it loses more quills today than when it was new. I started out pulling 2-3 quills off my face in the beginning... yesterday I pulled at least 10 off. Comments about Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set, 1 set: Had to get a "real" badger bristle brush. Bowl was what sold me on getting the set. Soap is OK. Brush is made to look like the real thing, but only outside hairs are badger in apperance. I gues they are trying to fool the unsuspecting. There is no way you can get a real badger brush for the price. I should have known better, but I really like the green ceramic bowl. Pros

Comments about Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set, 1 set: I can remember my grandfather shaving with soap, brush, and a straight razor, so when I saw this set on sale, I decided to get it, as kind of a connection to my grandfather. I have used it for a couple of weeks now and feel like I can make some factual comments. First, my brush did shed a few bristles, but nothing I would consider major. Next, if you are new to this way of shaving, as I was, be prepared for a little adjustment time. My first time, I felt like my face was sunburned after I finished shaving. I usually shave every other day, so my beard is a bit course when I do shave. I experimented more with the soap afterwards and discovered I have better success with a lot of moist lather and let it set for a minute before starting to shave. My second and subsequent shaves have been much more successful and comfortable. I use a regular 4 blade razor, but with the brush and the soap in it's cup sitting on the sink counter, I still see my grandfather's shaving set in my mind's eye and see him stropping his straight razor and deftly shaving with it. So, maybe I'll be trying a straight razor next, to complete this set. Bottom line, it's kinda fun to shave this way and adds some variety to life. I'd say, go ahead and give it a try. Pros

Comments about Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set, 1 set: Unike some I have not seen much shedding at all from this brush (all brushes lose a few hairs during break in) and what little it did shed was during the firt few shaves. The soap is good but the VDH luxury soap lathers better for me. The cup? Well a cup is a cup and it holds the soap so it does its job as well. All in all A good set for the money. I used this brush this morning in fact and it is a regular in my rotation. I do recomend and my son bought one and is happy with his as well. If I had to do it again, I would buy the VDH Luxury set and buy the boar brush seperately or buy both, for the price, why not? Pros

Comments about Van Der Hagen Premium Shave Set, 1 set: I like the mug a lot. Looks good and feels solid. The soap is decent. I wish I was getting a little better lather but I can deal with it. The brush isn't very good. The bristles break off all the time. I just got this last week and am looking for a new brush already. Overall I would say that it is probably not too bad for people new to wet shaving.  Pros
