I use it for my baby and the "white noise" actually helps him sleep! He loves it!! I have not experienced any extraordinary amount of water around the item, but that is probably because I don't use it unless the air is dry. If there is already enough humidity in the air, the mist will just fall right after coming out of the machine. I didn't buy the unit because of the air filter, but so far I see it as a nice bonus. However, the following 48 hours, intermittent vibration from the motor would occur. Once the unit was moved a little-the noise would stop. The particulate matter was fine with no water puddles. Using distilled water omitted build up inside the reservoir. It would be helpful to have a visual water guide on the side of the reservoir. I only look at humidifiers as a onetime use. Spores are difficult to kill unless using a chemical such as cidex or gluteraltahyde for soaking purposes. And then the electrical mechanism would not work again. Therefore, that aspect is not disappointing. The cost is high for a small portable humidifier. Manufacturer should look at revising plastic portions with #1 or #2 recyclable products. Also, it does not blow enough mist.
