Aside from tetrahydralazine constricting blood vessels to reduce redness, the zinc sulfate in Visine A/C breaks down sticky allergic exudate that accumulates in the eye. There are other ophthalmic drops containing zinc sulfate that are prescribed by ophthamologists for this very reason. It's terrific!

I would not recommend this product to a fellow allergy sufferer. It stings like crazy when you put it in and then does absolutely nothing to alleviate the itching/burning feeling from allergies. A total waste of money! Two thumbs down.

Astringent eye drops are not for everyone, but I swear by them.

I have somewhat oily skin and wear glasses, so oils build up around my eyes - this causes them to feel extremely itchy and irritated (on top of the aggravation from allergies).

I use astringent eye drops daily FOLLOWED BY WASHING MY FACE AND EYE AREA THOROUGHLY SEVERAL TIMES WITH SOAP AND WATER. If the eye area is not cleansed thoroughly right after application of the eye drops, the oils around the eyes may leach into the now clean eyes causing them to sting and itch. Washing my face before the eye drops doesn't seem to leave my eyes feeling quite as clean - so I use the drops first.

Eye drops with astringent are indispensible to me - I just can't live without them. Other drops do me absolutely no good because they just don't get the oils out of my eyes and I'm left with itching irritated eyes.

This stuff gets the red out, but irritated my eyes almost every time I used it. Threw away most of it.

I have watering, itching, eyes. I bought Visine A.C., put one drop in, and it worked better than the 4 days I've been on Panatol. I would recommend visine A.C. for allergy eyes.
