Believe it or not, these utensils are made from corn starch and are suitable for foods up to 200 degrees F. Unlike petroleum based plastics, these utensils are made from annually renewable resources and depending on composting conditions will biodegrade within 18 months in a commercial or homes composting system.

Comments about World Centric Flatware Spoons, Corn Starch, 24 ea:
I thought to try these to help save waste by being biodegradable, and was amazed to find strength like plastic in them. I don't know how these can be made of corn starch. Anyways, I now want to buy corn starch knives and forks too (I couldn't find the knives as of yet). If you do a Drugstore.com search for "cornstarch," nothing will show up. You have to separate the words: "corn starch."
The spoons came with a clever designed hole in the handle which also saves material. This is one use where less product doesn't cheat you and helps out the economy. You could hang it on a hook if you want, or a key chain for camping, I don't know. The spoon dip is slightly less deep, but think they can work for most any food I can imagine.
I need to save time and not have dishes to do or prepare in to keep me productive in the studio as much as possible with the least amount of waste, so overall, was fairly impressed with these.
Was this a gift?:
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
