I have tried this twice and both times I developed thrush (fungus in the mouth) by the second dose. I have a tendency to develop thrush as I have had hundreds of courses of antibiotics and steroids over my entire 64 years. So, if you have a susceptibility to thrush, don't choose this version of the cold remedy. I use the rapid melts and chewables without difficulty.

I've used several zicam products - each of them twice then tossed away. I just cannot endure the awful taste and remaining aftertaste that it delivers. Ugh. If it worked well I'd tolerate the awful taste but it really doesn't work all that well.
Oh, how I wish they could re-release the nasal gel and swabs - they really worked, did not affect taste and really reduced a cold's severity.
Unfortunately, I will not purchase another Zicam product.

OH how I miss the Nose Gel! It really worked great, and I did not have any side effects (loss of sense of smell). I don't know if all of these other Zicam Cold Remedies work because they all taste SO AWFUL that I cannot stand to use them. What a shame the Nose Gel and Swabs are no longer available. Thanks big brother!

The taste is not too bad, does not upset one's stomach alike the zinc lozenges. The nose spray, [...] worked better. [...] This is supposed to relieve a sore throat. It did not do so, for me.

I miss the nose gel! it worked perfectly and I didn't have to put it in my mouth! too bad about all the scary reports that came out about it.

this mouth spray temporarily alters my ability to taste. it leaves a horrible metallic taste that takes an hour or so to go away. even water tastes awful! I wish it worked as pills that you could swallow, but maybe it's not compatible with stomach acids or something (which is why everything they sell is something you have to hold in your mouth for a while).

Myself, spouse and two toddlers use this. None of us mind the taste. It won't alter sense of smell as nasal gel formula can. Do not spray on tongue, and taste shouldn't be altered either. I spray on inner cheeks, floor of mouth, and throat swish a bit for few seconds 2-3 x/day at first sign of cold. Rarely does one ever develop. I use 2 sprays for toddlers, and they actually like the taste. Don't use within and hour of citrus foods/juices, don't eat or rinse for about 20 mins. after using. This has kept us from developing colds (or atleast kept our symtoms shortened to 3 days or so and less severe) many, many times. Wish it wasn't quite so expensive. Even if some skeptics think it's placebo - that's OK, as long as I don't get a full-blown cold!

Love this product--spray right in your mouth, its easy to use. No gross nose swabs. And it works--every time to either fend off a cold or significantly reduce syemptoms and duration. No side effects that I"ve ever experienced.

Everyone else commented on the taste which I didn't find too terrible. What throat spray tastes good? (let me insert Chloraseptic for kids is probably the least gross tasting and most effective for the actual pain part, zicam more for prevention). As for the actual product, I felt a very sore throat and was on my second day of it intensifying when I woke up. Used some of this for a day or two and voila, no cold ever fully emerged. This is the second time it's worked for me. The bottle will probably last all winter. I will definitely repurchase this!

I had been using Cold-Eze lozenges when I felt colds coming on, and let me tell you that they are 10 times worse-tasting than this product. True it doesn't taste great, but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make for two or three days rather than having a cold for longer. I like to use this when I feel the cold symptoms coming on in my throat (sore throat), and the nasal gel when I feel it in my sinuses. If I feel it both places, I'll use both at the same time.
