Blanch vegetables and pre-freeze fruits before packaging. To avoid drawing liquids into pump during vacuum sealing, pre-freeze moist or juicy foods before packaging. Not recommended for liquids (like soups, sauces) or powdery foods or items containing small particles. use caution when sealing items with sharp edges (like pasta) which could puncture bag. Do not overfill bag.

We had bought half of a halibut (10 lbs) when it was in season, and decided to give the Ziploc system a shot because it's significantly cheaper than buying another single purpose kitchen gadget. We figured if it didn't work, we'll just eat the fish sooner rather than later.
We followed the instructions and got almost all of the air out before we put the bags of halibut in the freezer; months later, the halibut is still looking as good as the Foodsaver vacuum sealed salmon we received as gifts from family in Alaska around the same time.
We would like to buy more of the bags but none of the brick & mortar stores sell them anymore, this is where Drugstore.com comes to the rescue.

Not so easy

I could NOT get these vacuum bags to work, I couldn't even get the pump to hook to the bag....BUT, the bags are a heavier more harder plastic then a normal baggie and I use them for my fresh cut fruit and veggies.
Not sure if it's what the bags are made of or what, but it seems my fruits and veggies stay fresh longer in these then regular bags, even without the vacuum, so I bought them again because of that, but discarded the pump.
This is an excellent product, along with the small manual hand vacuum from Ziploc. It's as efficient as most of the expensive electric vacuum/freezer bag devices, but much cheaper.
I save a lot of money and time buying larger quantities of meat, and portioning them out into individual meal-size selections with the quart size vacuum bags. They give your frozen foods 100% freezer-burn protection. I've been using them for several years now with great success.
Unfortunately, the supermarkets don't carry the Ziploc vacuum bags anymore. Fortunately I'm pleased to say that drugstore.com carries the full line of vacuum bags! Thanks!
Thought I'd give these new freezer bags a try, hoped for better results since bags are made of a different type material, even though bag was air-tight, it had frost form on the frozen food within couple days.
Product is used to ship smaller orders of wiper-scraper rings of various sizes. Really excellent when rolling the rings into tubes of kraft wrapping paper is impractical. On occassion, a pinprick hole, either pre-existing or caused by the sharpness of a ring, compromises the vacuum seal. Perhaps a slightly thicker version of the bag could be made for industry use.
I have been trying to get these bags in this size at my local grocery store unsuccessfully for months and then I found this site and had them within in days.
These bags work great for getting an airtight seal around your meats! Also work well for freezing your own baby food! Some of the bags seem to leak once in a while, but most will reseal and hold afterwards! The pump system is great for getting a small appliance off your counter
Approximately 30% pf the seals on these bags will leak. Even with some leaking they protect well. Other than that, the bags are great for storing things like grated cheese where you need a handful once in awhile. I reuse the bags so am will ing to put up with the failure rate. They prevent dry out in the refrigerator and freezer burn without hauling out the vacuum sealer.
