Chemical Name: ALLOPURINOL (al-oh-PURE-i-nole)

Common uses for Zyloprim
Zyloprim 300mg is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor used to treat gout and certain other conditions where the body makes too much uric acid. It is also used in some patients to reduce or prevent the formation of calcium oxalate type kidney stones. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Zyloprim
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Zyloprim 300mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking azathioprine or mercaptopurine. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Zyloprim 300mg.

Directions for Zyloprim
Follow the directions for using Zyloprim 300mg provided by your doctor. TAKE ZYLOPRIM 300mg with food or milk. DRINKING EXTRA FLUIDS while you are taking Zyloprim 300mg is recommended. Check with your doctor or nurse for instructions. STORE ZYLOPRIM 300mg at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ZYLOPRIM 300mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions for Zyloprim
IT MAY TAKE 2 WEEKS OR MORE to receive the full benefit of Zyloprim 300mg. Do not stop taking Zyloprim 300mg without checking with your doctor. ZYLOPRIM 300mg IS NOT USEFUL for relieving an acute gout attack. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Zyloprim 300mg during pregnancy. ZYLOPRIM 300mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Zyloprim 300mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Zyloprim
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience a skin rash, skin sores, itching, hives, painful urination, blood in urine, fever, irritation of the eyes, or swelling of lips or mouth. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
