Chemical Name: LINEZOLID (li-NAY-zoh-lid)
Zyvox 600mg is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat certain serious bacterial infections that are often resistant to other antibiotics.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Zyvox 600mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE ZYVOX 600mg if you are also taking an amphetamine (eg, dextroamphetamine), certain anorexiants (eg, phentermine), buspirone, a catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor (eg, entacapone), levodopa, meperidine, a sympathomimetic (eg, albuterol, dopamine, epinephrine, pseudoephedrine), tetrabenazine, or triptans (eg, sumatriptan). DO NOT TAKE ZYVOX 600mg if you are taking or have taken certain anorexiants (eg, sibutramine), apraclonidine, bupropion, cyclobenzaprine, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (eg, atomoxetine), a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) (eg, duloxetine), a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (eg, paroxetine), a tetracyclic antidepressant (eg, maprotiline), or a tricyclic antidepressant (eg, amitriptyline) within the past 14 days. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking barbiturates (eg, phenobarbital), carbamazepine, ginseng, hydantoins (eg, phenytoin), narcotic pain medicines (eg, propoxyphene), rifamycins (eg, rifampin), or tryptophan. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of eye or vision problems, kidney problems, low blood cell or platelet levels (myelosuppression), uncontrolled high blood pressure, certain adrenal gland problems (pheochromocytoma), carcinoid syndrome, seizures, severe liver problems, untreated high thyroid levels, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have a prolonged infection that has been previously treated with another antibiotic or if you are taking any medicine for depression. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Zyvox 600mg.
Follow the directions for using Zyvox 600mg provided by your doctor. Zyvox 600mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. STORE ZYVOX 600mg at room temperature, away from heat and light. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, continue taking Zyvox 600mg for the full course of treatment even if you begin to feel better in a few days. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ZYVOX 600mg, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE ZYVOX 600mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. A severe reaction includes a severe rash, hives, breathing difficulties, or dizziness. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including complete blood cell counts and eye exams, may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Zyvox 600mg. Zyvox 600mg may cause dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Zyvox 600mg. Using Zyvox 600mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. ZYVOX 600mg MAY CAUSE SERIOUS INCREASES IN BLOOD PRESSURE if certain foods are eaten. Avoid eating foods such as aged cheeses, sour cream, red wines, beer, bologna, pepperoni, salami, summer sausage, pickled herring, liver, meat prepared with tenderizers, canned figs, raisins, bananas, avocados, soy sauce, fava beans, or yeast extracts. Obtain a complete list of foods and beverages from your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. IF MODERATE TO SEVERE DIARRHEA OCCURS during or after treatment with Zyvox 600mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist. Do not treat it with non-prescription (over-the-counter) medicines. ZYVOX 600mg MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. LACTIC ACIDOSIS has occurred with the use of Zyvox 600mg. Contact your doctor if you have severe, persistent nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or unusual tiredness or weakness. SERIOUS EYE PROBLEMS (eg, peripheral and optic neuropathy) have occurred with the use of Zyvox 600mg. Contact your doctor if you experience vision changes (eg, decreased or blurred vision, changes in color vision, loss of vision). LONG-TERM OR REPEATED USE of Zyvox 600mg may cause a second infection. Tell your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Your medicine may need to be changed to treat this. ZYVOX 600mg ONLY WORKS AGAINST BACTERIA; it does not treat viral infections (eg, the common cold). BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any medicine that contains pseudoephedrine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Zyvox 600mg during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF ZYVOX 600mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Zyvox 600mg, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, bad taste in mouth, trouble sleeping, tongue discoloration, or vomiting. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience unusual bleeding or bruising; bloody stools; bloody vomit; confusion; exaggerated reflexes; excitation; mental or mood changes; unusual tiredness or weakness; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; agitation; loss of coordination; tingling or numbness of hands/feet; vision changes (eg, decreased or blurred vision, changes in color vision, loss of vision); fast heartbeat; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; severe or persistent diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting; sweating; stomach pain or cramps; swelling of the hands or feet; muscle spasms; seizures; vaginal irritation or unusual discharge; or white patches in the mouth. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Zyvox 600mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; unusual hoarseness.
